This this is the lexus rcf. More specifically, this is the 2021 lexus rcf fuji speedway edition. It looks like a track edition, but it is not it kind of is so let’s talk. Looks on the outside. This is an aggressive looking machine, especially for alexis aggressive in a good way, though i like the blacked out wheels that are hiding right behind them. Are a set of brembo carbon ceramic brakes in the nose? You have a legit carbon fiber hood there’s, a carbon fiber roof and there’s a big old wang on the rear trunk, and that is carbon fiber with a really nicely executed. F logo into the carbon fiber weave seriously. That is really cool. The schnoz is a bit much, but the rest of the car from every angle looks really good. I think the wing can be a bit silly at times, but, like i said, the design of it and the usefulness of it is there and it’s real. You move to the inside and there’s some gorgeous red, suede red leather against black trim, uh mixed on the steering wheel, there’s, a subtle, f badge in the seats like embossed in it there’s some red carbon fiber that i could do without i don’t love red. I don’t like tinted carbon fiber, but that’s minor um. The the rest of this looks good it’s, comfortable, it’s, nice it’s, easy to see. You got a big old digital tack in front of you that changes color.
When you switch to the different driving modes. The infotainment screen up there is nice and easy to read and works with carplay, and you get a lexus clock, because this is luxury hilariously there’s, a cd player still in here, which you know if you got cds rock on what i like to rock on to. However, is that engine noise, so this is not the fastest. This is not the sharpest knife in the sports car shed that’s, why? I said it exists somewhere between the sports car, the hardened sports car and the grand tourer, because it is lexus comfortable inside these seats, though they are nicely bolstered and supportive they’re comfortable. You could do a long road trip in one of these. Under the hood. We have a five liter v8 engine, naturally aspirated, making 472 horsepower and ‘5 pound feet of torque. Now the problem with that engine is that all the power is up at the top end for the horsepower it’s at 7, 100 uh peak torques at like 4 800.. Now the good news, though, to get there is, should rev the engine out, because it sounds really really good. This one has a titanium exhaust that’s different from the standard rcf um. Then it this it gets those brakes. It gets sticky tires. It gets actual aerodynamic tweaks to sit it above a regular rcf now, in addition to the fact that um it’s a bit more aggressive than your standard rcf, it it’s very limited with the track edition.
I didn’t know this lexus only made 50 of those that’s that’s crazy low here with the fuji edition it’s, another low run model they’re only doing 60 of these. If you buy one, you get a special watch that goes with it, which i’ve never heard of mstr watches but that’s, just because i’m, probably too poor to know who they are but that’s. The brand of watch you get to commemorate you buying a very fancy. Lexus, are there faster cars out there most definitely. Are there better track tools, no question about it, but is this one more livable on a daily basis, probably because it’s still giving you the lexus experience and i think that’s why someone would buy one of these over something like you know, and i didn’t even know What you would get an m4 competition or or those are those are even just so more aggressive, so much more capable um. This is not as expensive as a porsche 911, so it’s not in that category um, because i think a base rcf, i think, is around. Like 67., this one as tested is probably in the 80s. If i had to guess, i don’t have the window sticker in front of me and i didn’t get one i’ll have to dig one up and find it there’s. The limited edition nature of this, which adds to its coolness collectibility factor, but if you buy one, you should go drive it because again, that noise is really good.
With the digital displayed attack, there’s like a more emotional, heightened connection as it’s like yeah, maybe um, and then, when you shift it for a second shows where you shifted: it’s, pretty cool it’s, pretty cool there’s, a lot of cool features. On this thing, the gearbox, though i wish it was a little snappier uh. The shifts are smooth, which makes sense for it being a lexus, but i wish they were a bit quicker, especially you know the the one to two shifts. It’S, like uh, you got ta, know there’s a delay and grab the paddle a second before you would then downshifting. You know i mean it’s quick enough, but it’s not it’s, not as quick as the most modern cutting edge sports car tech that’s out there there’s still a bit of analog nature left behind in this. I guess which is silly to say with all the the you know, the digital tack and um all that’s. The apple car play up um, but you know it’s, naturally, aspirated there’s, no forced induction um. I don’t believe it’s a dual clutch gearbox since the speed you know: it’s, just regular old, okay, there’s, a gear there’s, a gear there’s, a gear there’s a gear instead of the next one, ready to go. Um there’s again a cd player still in here, but the mark levinson sound system does sound good, regardless of your media there’s a back seat which is beneficial. I could bring kiddo driving her to and from school in this.
So there are a lot of pluses to be found if you want the sharpest sports car out there. The lexus rcf is not the one for you. If you want one that looks really cool, i like eye catchingly, so you know polarizing on the nose sure but eye catching looks. This is up there too and then just as a general daily driver, it’s very comfortable, not just for a sports car. If you put it into sport plus the highest setting, the suspension gets a bit too stiff, but that makes sense, because this is a pseudo track edition vehicle. So that would be nice on a race track around town, though i just put it into regular sport and i’m happy, and then i mentioned the gearbox earlier. So i find it best to shift the paddles yourself rather than leaving the gearbox to go up and hunt for fuel economy. Speaking of fuel economy. I have 28 miles of range left, so i’m, probably going to find a gas station here in a minute. The one thing i like most about the rcf is that it is proof positive that when akio toyota said he doesn’t want you to think of his cars is boring, he’s telling the truth, and i believe that man akio toyota is head of global toyota. So toyota, all of it he’s in charge of all of it, and now, if you look at what toyota is doing, they have a camry that makes over 300 horsepower.
You can get it with a wing and a trd version. There is a good, the corolla that we get is really good. Looking the yaris that we don’t get that we we desperately need sounds amazing that gr yaris um, the supra everybody can have their issues with the super, but there’s. No denying that it’s a really fun car to drive, then on the lexus side. Yes, they just killed the gsf, which was a fun machine, but you have the lc 500, which is like which almost out tour, which almost out grand tours what aston martin is doing right now, the noise is amazing, the styling is just splendid is probably a good Way to describe it um and then i still remember one of the best break stands. I’Ve ever done was in a lexus, ls, hybrid um. Just so across the line. The cars are not boring, there’s even the rav4 prime, which is a hybrid crossover, 0 to 60. In 5.4 seconds, which, for a hybrid crossover, is pretty darn good and it makes it the second quickest toyota product you can buy it’s quicker than the four cylinder supra, and then i didn’t, even i forgot the entry level sports car. The gt86 gone is the torque. Well of the last generation, at least you know on the brz, when i rode along in the 2022 brz. It felt like that torque dip in the middle is gone, so that’s good news for that car that’s, i feel like that – is a smarter buy for the person who wants to buy their first sports car than uh miata uh.
The gt86 makes more sense to me. The brz makes more sense to me even though it’s super good i’ll tell you um, so akio toyota is making good on his promise that toyota product vehicles, you should not think of them as boring. I don’t and i don’t think you should either if you think they’re boring. Maybe you need to re, examine what’s going on in your life and maybe you’re the boring one. Music.
