People have always been fascinated by monster trucks, and the solid axle monster truck segment has recently seen a resurgence in popularity. Ready to Run and Available in Two Body Options
The Losi Mini LMT comes completely ready to run, which means you can start having fun with it right out of the box. It’s available in two different body options: the iconic Grave Digger and the equally impressive Son of a Digger. For those who appreciate the small details, I have taken this mini LMT apart to give you a glimpse of its internals. It’s truly a marvel of engineering.
Exterior and Details
Straight out of the box, the mini LMT looks stunning with its Son of a Digger body. The body is made of durable Lexan and is painted on the underside. The flames on the body are painted, while the rest of the graphics are decals. The body is securely held down by an inner cage, giving it a realistic look. Inside, there is a molded plastic helmet-wearing driver figure, a chrome grill, and tinted blue lenses for the headlights, which are also equipped with LED lights.
Transmission and Axles
The internals of the mini LMT are just as impressive as its exterior. The transmission and axles are built to withstand the ruggedness of monster truck action. Whether you’re going over jumps or tackling rough terrains, the mini LMT is up to the task. With its durable and high-quality components, you can expect hours of thrilling playtime.
Fun Monster Truck Action
Now, let’s get down to the most exciting part: experiencing the mini LMT in action. With its powerful motor, high-traction tires, and suspension system, this monster truck is capable of conquering any obstacle in its path. Whether you take it to a dirt track or a backyard ramp, the mini LMT will provide endless fun.
In , the Losi Mini LMT is a mini-sized monster truck that is sure to impress. Its ready-to-run feature, detailed exterior, robust internals, and incredible performance make it a must-have for both monster truck enthusiasts and beginners alike. Get ready to unleash the fun and excitement of the mini LMT!
The Body and Wheels
The Losi Mini LMT is a monster truck that looks absolutely sick. Once it’s lit up, the body is actually held down with little spin clips, making it easy to tilt the body up. The only downside is that it tilts the front of the body a little bit, which is kind of tweaking me out. I keep pushing it back, but that’s the only issue I have with it. The front clip is offset to avoid interfering with the servo savers.
The truck comes with large BKT Chevron style tires on offset wheels, which is pretty cool. If you want to find different aftermarket wheels, you have plenty of options since it has 12 mm hexes. Moving to the back, there’s a wheelie bar that can be set up in dual positions. You can choose between racing mode, wheelie mode, or stunt mode.
Removing the screws allows easy access to the chassis. The chassis plates are made of aluminum and powder coated in purple, which matches the nerf bars on the side. It’s refreshing to see that it’s not a plastic twin vertical plate chassis. The chassis has plenty of holes for altering the shock mounting locations. There are also a couple of cross braces throughout, with one acting as the body clip in the front. On the shock tower, you can see a few more braces in the back. Additionally, there’s a small fuel cell battery that sits right in the center, held in place by rubber straps.
Design and Construction
The Losi Mini LMT monster truck may be mini-sized, but it doesn’t lack in power and performance. It features a well-designed construction that allows for a scaled-down version of the popular monster truck. The sponsor plate and decals are just a smaller representation of what you would find on a full-sized truck. The center transmission plate is easily accessible, allowing you to access the gears through the lower panel.
One of the standout features of the Losi Mini LMT is its drivetrain. The center transmission houses all-metal gears, ensuring durability and longevity. Although this truck doesn’t have a center differential, the presence of all-metal gears and ball bearings on the inside is a welcome addition. The transfer gears from the pinion are also made of metal and feature a cush drive, providing a smooth and efficient power transfer.
Metal Gears and Bearings
When I took apart the axles of the Losi Mini LMT, I discovered that all the gears inside were made of metal. From the ring and pinion to the differential spider gears, each component boasts impressive strength and durability. The ball bearings used throughout the truck further contribute to its smooth operation and overall performance.
Differential and Drive Shafts
The Losi Mini LMT relies on an open differential system, which means it may require some heavy grease to adjust the differential action. While this may be a limitation for some, the telescoping Setter drive shafts with metal yolks make up for it. These components ensure a reliable and sturdy connection between the transmission and the wheels. Additionally, the sliders themselves are made of a composite plastic material, which is both lightweight and durable.
The Axle and Steering Knuckles
The axle of the Losi Mini LMT is quite impressive. It bears a resemblance to the rear axle, but with a twist. The universals are extended to the steering knuckles, which adds to their sturdiness. Upon closer inspection, the steering knuckles appear to be heavy-duty and reliable. The axle itself is heavily reinforced with ample webbing on the inside. Although composite axles are known to crack easily, these seem to be well-braced. Only time will tell how they hold up. It took quite a bit of effort to disassemble these components, but I believe it was worth it. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
Suspension and Shocks
The Losi Mini LMT boasts impressive suspension with oil-filled shocks at the front and rear. Upon testing, the shocks provide a great feel. Interestingly, different springs are used in the front and rear, indicating that extensive testing and tuning have been done to find the perfect spring combination. Additionally, sway bars and metal links have been incorporated into the design. The use of aluminum links for both the top and bottom suspensions is simply awesome. However, it does appear that there is a slight hint of sway in the truck. This is due to the triangulation of the links, necessary for proper handling. While noticeable, it is a minor trade-off for better performance.
Moving on to the electronics, the Losi Mini LMT features the SX 108 Servo in the front, which is the latest addition we saw on the mini drag car. This servo is top-notch and ensures precise control. The standard steering link setup is also present, which adds to the overall stability and maneuverability of the truck. The combination of these electronics promises a thrilling and responsive driving experience.
Composite Steering Links
The Losi Mini LMT boasts composite steering links that enhance the overall performance of this mini-sized monster truck. These steering links are composed of durable materials that ensure longevity and stability during intense races and stunts.
Two-in-One Speed Controller and Receiver
One remarkable feature of the Losi Mini LMT is its speed controller, which also serves as a receiver. This ingenious design saves space and ensures convenience for users. The speed controller connector is securely mounted on the top plate, providing stability even in the most rigorous off-road conditions.
Tunable Speed Controller
The speed controller of the Losi Mini LMT offers versatility for users. It can be easily adjusted to accommodate different battery types, such as lithium-polymer (lipo) or nickel metal hydride (NiMH). Additionally, the reversing feature can be customized, allowing users to have options like forward braking or seamless forward-to-reverse transitions for executing impressive tricks.
With a 380 25-turn motor, the Losi Mini LMT sets itself apart from other mini monster trucks on the market. This motor is the largest and delivers outstanding power and performance. The motor comes expertly wired from the factory, giving users peace of mind knowing that it has been professionally set up.
When purchasing the Losi Mini LMT, you will receive a comprehensive package that includes essential accessories and components. The Spectrum radio system, SLT2, guarantees a reliable connection between the controller and the truck. Ablea batteries are also included to power the radio system. The newest Spectrum USB charger ensures quick and convenient charging for the included 810 milliamp 2s Spectrum Lipo battery pack. Other items, such as a battery adapter, trading card, cross wrench, and binding plug, are included for added convenience.
If the incredible features of the Losi Mini LMT aren’t enough, the package also includes a poster showcasing a range of optional aluminum parts, including axles and shocks. These aluminum upgrades not only enhance the aesthetics of the truck but also improve its overall performance. The inclusion of the poster adds an exciting element as it provides a sneak peek into the customizable options available for users.
In , the Losi Mini LMT is a mini-sized monster truck that delivers exceptional performance and versatility. With its composite steering links, two-in-one speed controller and receiver, tunable speed controller, and powerful motor, this truck is a force to be reckoned with. The complete package, including the Spectrum radio system, USB charger, and various additional items, makes the Losi Mini LMT an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking to explore the world of miniature monster trucks.
