The Ecto’s Upgrades: Rock Sliders
I couldn’t resist making another modification to the Ecto, this time adding some rock sliders. I happened to have rock sliders for my XJ Jeep that fit perfectly onto the Ecto. These sliders were quite affordable, costing only about 20 bucks from AliExpress. Although it may be difficult to demonstrate, the actual installation process is not complicated at all. In the future, I plan to create a tutorial on how to install rock sliders on the Ecto.
The Ecto’s First Run
Once the rock sliders were in place, it was time to take the Ecto for its inaugural run. Since taking it out of the box, this would be its first time hitting the ground. With the additional weight from the wheel weights and rock sliders, the Ecto now weighs approximately 2.5 kg. When it is brand new, straight out of the box, it likely only weighs around one kilogram. As expected, it is not a very heavy RC car.
Smooth Roll and Control
As I released the Ecto onto the ground, I noticed that it had a smooth roll without any issues. The drag break was in its neutral position, causing the car to roll down the incline slightly. I must say, the hobbywing 1080 ESC provides excellent control, especially when decelerating. However, I did find that it tends to be a bit too fast for my liking when going downhill. In my previous video, I mentioned that I would probably stick with the original ESC. Now, I am reconsidering and thinking of swapping it out for a hobbywing 1080 ESC to achieve better control and smoother movement.
