The Controller and Batteries
To operate the RC car drift truck, you’ll need two ablea batteries for the controller. Once you have them ready, let’s take a closer look inside the vehicle.
Impressive Wheels and Motor
Upon examination, I noticed the presence of some smooth drift wheels. However, when it comes to speedruns, I personally prefer different wheels. Additionally, it seems to feature a 380 size canned motor, which promises excellent performance. But what caught my attention the most were the awesome little LEDs attached to the vehicle. They will definitely come in handy when we embark on our nocturnal Tokyo drifting adventures.
Two Batteries and a Normal Servo
In this kit, we are provided with not one, but two batteries. This is a pretty cool feature, as it means double the playtime and double the fun. Along with the batteries, we also have a normal servo, which is an essential component for controlling the movements of the RC car drift truck.
The Drive Shaft and Dog Bones
Upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that the drive shaft of this RC car drift truck is made of metal. This is a great addition, as it adds durability and strength to the overall structure of the vehicle. However, the dog bones at the rear, which connect the wheels to the drive shaft, are made of plastic. This raises a question of how well they will hold up when the car is upgraded to a brushless system.
Plastic CVDS and Suspension
Moving on to the front of the RC car drift truck, we can see that it is equipped with plastic constant velocity driveshafts (CVDS). While these may not be as strong as metal CVDS, they still do the job effectively. As for the suspension system, there is some uncertainty whether it is oil-filled or not. Regardless, the fact that it even has a suspension system is impressive. It gives the car the ability to handle rough surfaces and maintain stability during drifts.
Gyro Steering and Responsive Speed
One of the standout features of this RC car drift truck is the gyro steering. This technology helps to keep the car stable while drifting, enhancing the overall performance and control. Additionally, the car boasts impressive speed and responsiveness, allowing for quick and smooth maneuvers on the track.
Brushed vs. Brushless
The next step in testing this RC car drift truck is to compare its performance with both a brushed and brushless motor. In a previous video, a brushless system was featured and is now ready to be installed in this car. The wheels used for both setups are the same size, ensuring a fair and accurate comparison. It will be interesting to witness the difference in speed and handling between the two systems.
A Location for Drifting
Now, let’s take the RC car drift truck to a cool location that is perfect for some drifting action. With a wide open space and plenty of room to maneuver, this spot promises exciting and exhilarating moments. It’s time to put the car to the test and see what it can really do.
The Joy of Drifting
After putting the RC car drift truck through its paces, it is clear that this is a lot of fun to drive. To achieve proper drifting, it seems that keeping the throttle at full power is the key. Half throttle may not produce the desired drifting effect, but when the pedal is to the metal, the car glides and slides effortlessly.
In , this overpowered RC car drift truck offers an impressive performance with its two batteries, metal drive shaft, gyro steering, and responsive speed. While there may be some concerns about the durability of the plastic components, the overall experience of drifting is undeniably enjoyable. Whether with a brushed or brushless motor, this RC car drift truck is ready to provide hours of entertainment for hobbyists and enthusiasts alike.
The Need for Brushless Power
The first thing that strikes me about this RC car drift truck is that it lacks the power of a brushless motor. While it may be suitable for indoor use, it falls short in terms of speed and performance. But let’s not dismiss it just yet, because when it comes to drifting, this little machine can hold its own.
A Master of Drift
I must admit, the drifting capabilities of this RC car are pretty impressive. It smoothly glides around corners and executes perfect drifts with relative ease. It’s definitely a joy to watch, especially if you’re a fan of the art of drifting.
Indoor vs Outdoor
While this RC car performs admirably indoors, it appears to lack the power required for outdoor missions. The 2s battery simply doesn’t provide enough oomph to take this car to its full potential. However, if you’re seeking some drifting action or high-speed runs, then keep watching because I’ve got something exciting to show you.
The Brushless Beast
Here it is, the brushless beast that we’ve all been waiting for. This RC car is equipped with the power and performance of a brushless motor. I’ve taken it out of a similar car and placed it into this truck, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer.
A Morning Run
As the sun rises and sets the stage for an incredible running session, I can’t help but marvel at the beauty of this moment. With no one around, I power on the GPS and ensure it’s properly set. It’s still early in the morning, and the birds are chirping their melodies as I get ready to experience the thrill of speed.
With a 2s LiPo battery, I hit the throttle with full force. The truck accelerates, albeit not as fast as I had hoped. But let’s remember, this is only with a 2s battery. I can’t help but wonder if the battery will hold up, but I’m determined to push its limits. The rough terrain adds a sense of excitement, and I can’t wait to see what this RC car drift truck can really do.
Instead of wallowing in disappointment, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I used some slda wire to secure a 3s battery, which should provide the extra power I need. This modification, combined with the installed GPS, will hopefully give me the results I desire. So, armed with my improved RC car, I set out to give it a proper test drive.
The Test Drive
With the RC car armed and ready, I gently release it onto the pavement. I want to gradually build up speed until I have a good run. Ah, there it goes! Surprisingly, this time it holds up and doesn’t break on me. The speedometer shows a decent improvement with a maximum speed of 21 mph. While not mind-blowing, it’s still a 6 mph increase from before. Not too shabby for a modified RC car drift truck.
Now, let’s take a look at the distance covered. Kilometers are the preferred unit for this measurement, and my improved RC car manages to cover a distance of 34 km. That’s almost 10 km more than its previous performance. This is the kind of progress I love to see. It’s proof that with the right modifications, these little RC cars can become powerful machines that live up to our drifting dreams.
The Power of Brushless
I believe one of the key factors behind this improvement lies in the brushless motor and rubber tires I installed. Previously, the RC car had plastic tires designed for drifting, but they didn’t quite cut it. Now, with brushless power and rubber tires, the car can drift with ease. This experience has made me a firm believer that everything should be brushless. The old brushed technology is becoming obsolete, especially considering the price difference. It’s much more cost-effective to go brushless, and the performance gains are well worth it. Just think about it: an entire fleet of brushless RC cars dominating the streets. Doesn’t that sound awesome?
The Saturday Morning Fun
Well, I must admit that I’m having way too much fun with my upgraded RC car drift truck. It truly is the perfect activity for a Saturday morning. Letting loose, feeling the power, and seeing the improvements firsthand is an exhilarating experience. Who needs coffee when you have an overpowered RC car to kickstart your day?
A Perfect Fit for Indoor Drifting
The stock version of this RC car, equipped with the stock Li-Ion battery and plastic wheels, is an excellent choice for indoor drifting. Whether you want to conquer a little bit of carpet or try it out on a basketball field, this RC car will deliver the performance you seek. Its lightweight design and maneuverability make it ideal for tight corners and precise drifts. If you’re a parent looking for a suitable RC car for your little one, this is a fantastic option.
Unlocking the Beast
For those seeking more power and speed, it’s worth exploring the possibilities with the MJX RC car. In my review of this model, I was pleasantly surprised by its affordable price and outstanding performance. With its fully 3S brushless system, it offers the same power as the car I’m discussing here, but with even better construction. This upgraded version can handle the intensity of 3S power and withstand more demanding drifts, whether on dirt or any other challenging terrain you may encounter.
Unleashing the Power
In my adventurous pursuits with this RC car, I may have pushed its limits a little too far. I almost crashed into a pole, which could have been disastrous for its plastic drivetrain. However, this incident serves as a testament to the car’s durability. If you decide to push it to the extreme, be aware that the outcomes are entirely up to you. But even with some rough treatment, the motor remains surprisingly cool to the touch, despite the heat generated on a 3S power setting. This is quite an impressive feat and a testament to its robust design.
Affordability and Performance
If you’re on a budget and are considering getting a cheaper RC car for drifting, I strongly recommend checking out the MJX model that I mentioned earlier.
