So this is a father child rc car it’s, not the best rt car for dads it’s, not the best rc car for kids, but as a combination. If you’re gon na get one rc car that can satisfy both needs, this would be the one starting to rain here. Okay, so basically the exclusive feature here is going to be the transmitter and that’s because it does have what’s called a slow mode. So you pop that switch down to uh, slow and basically it’ll, go about 11 miles an hour and it’s good for entry level. Once you start getting used to it, you can pop it up to normal and it’ll go about 17 miles an hour ish. One thing i really like about this. I tend to do a lot of modifying of all sorts of things that i own um and you can modify the shocks so here. Uh high boxing actually sells upgraded oil filled shocks out of the box. They are friction, so they don’t they don’t have the damping that you would get with these um upgraded ones. These are people say these are cheap, but a set of four is gon na cost. You 16.50, which i don’t know i feel like it’s kind of a lot for uh shocks for a tiny, little rc car, but regardless um you do get that damping capability. If you decide to go that route um, it does come with two led lights. One of them is actually broken because i’ve been using this so much that um too many crashes.
I guess, but basically you’ll see two led lights in the one that you have and we’ll show you how that works on the inside once we pop that canopy open. The one thing i’ll need to talk about is the pricing of this guy. So this is a truggy style, basically it’s, half truck half buggy it’s, this orange one right here they do have other colors, but the one that’s actually valued better – that i find from aliexpress or banggood is going to be the monster truck style. So this one i got from amazon. I knew i overpaid for this, but it was 70 bucks which um is 20 more than where you can get it from amazon or from banggood and aliexpress um. They char. They don’t, sell this camp. This chuggy style, which i really liked – and i really like this color, so i went for it but um if you’re going looking for the best bang for the buck. The best deal it’s going to be the monster truck style and it will be from either aliexpress or banggood and i’ll put links below and uh. Those again are monster truck style and those are going to be about fifty dollars anywhere from 48 to like 55. The other colors that they come in is going to be this black and green, the orange we have here and this kind of green and red didn’t really like the green red, because i guess it just kind of reminds me of christmas holidays, which is a little Awkward to me, but anyway you might like it each of their own, so let’s get on the inside and take a look what’s under the shell all right.
So this is the inside of the boxing hailstorm or rampage it’s, going to be it’s, going to look the same uh the difference between the rampage, the pic the monster truck style versus this uh truckee style is going to be basically the height of where these body Clips are mounted and the suspension is going to be a little bit taller a little bit, possibly a little bit angled differently, so let’s go ahead and look at the suspension. So one cool thing i talked about that. I mentioned about the kind of tweaking of the uh rc car. Here modifications you make other than replacing the shocks is that you’ll notice here? If we look closely there’s actually two holes where you can change where the suspension or the shocks are set so on the bottom there’s two holes, you pick either the outer one or the inner one, and then up here it’s going to be fixed there’s only going To be one location, so let’s flip to the back, and we will see again, the top location is going to be fixed and the bottom again. We have two options: you have the inside hole versus the outside hole, so that’ll change the ride, height that’ll change, the damping they handle me a little bit and i and right here one thing that people don’t like about kind of the budget, rc cars and it’s Fairly common, but inside you won’t see the normal hex bolt you’ll see just this phillips screw head.
So if you were to try to use other wheels for from your other vehicles, you’re – probably not going to do that because it doesn’t have the standard hex connection. So we look kind of a little bit about the the quality of this. I like to kind of move this a little bit just to kind of see the play, so dog bones are going to be or cvds are going to be plastic. This is the first thing that actually failed uh when i hit a curb during a speed test, so that piece i did they do high boxing does sell metal ones, but i just didn’t get those they weren’t available from amazon at the time, and i didn’t really Want to wait to get this thing running, because this thing’s actually a lot of fun, so i wanted to get it going as soon as i could so this here we do have a brushed motor. This heatsink is included. This lipo alarm is not included. I added that on my own – and this is going to be a two in one esc and a receiver, so right here, you’re going to see a five wire, servo connector. So servo goes here, you can see go along and this here, the servo. So if you were to change it to your own receiver, which a lot of people like to modify and do you’re not going to be able to do that easily, because you will need to change servo to a standard three wire servo, this one does five wire And this wire here is going to be uh for the headlights, so this is going to be the headlights that’s included, so you do have to wire this on your own.
You just plug that in and it goes along this way and you will see headlights here so again one of them broke. It has been kind of hard to find replacements, but i think i just need to pull that open and then maybe just re solder or something but it’s, not a big deal. We’Ll look a little bit more in detail with the transmitter, so this transmitter is quite small. I mean this is designed for kids. I would suppose so. Basically, there’s no endpoint control, there’s going to be the on and off switch here and, as i talked about earlier, there’s going to be the normal and slow mode, and this is steering reverse. Basically, if i don’t know why you’d use that, but for some reason, if when they hooked it up in the factory, if when you pull the trigger, it goes backwards and and you push forward and it goes forward kind of the opposite of how it normally goes. Then you would just flip that or i guess, if you’re modifying with your own motor and you cross the wires, then you can use that, but for most uh use out of the box you’re just going to toggle between slow mode and normal mode. And here is the trim control, so you can do basically if the wheels are not going straight, then you’re going to turn that uh. If it’s going too far to the right you’re going to turn a little bit to the left and opposite is true to compensate for the other direction.
One thing that i found unusual about this car is: it comes with these little foam uh discs here and basically that just helps prevent, because underneath the foam disc are these body clips and what the foam does is. It prevents um the body clip from basically piercing through the shell or the body here, and so these you’ll lose in an instant. So what i did was, i just super glued it onto the posts, because you’re never really going to take them off. This here is the lipo battery that you can replace with a lithium ion battery. One thing that’s super important to talk about as far as it comes to budget vehicles, rc cars for kids is run time run. Time is crucial because these things take over an hour, maybe even two hours, with the usb charger. It comes with um to charge, and so, if you don’t have a lot of run time, it’s not going to be a lot of fun for the kids to be waiting around for batteries to charge. So this thing actually gets 20 minutes. So i ran this for about 10 minutes prior to doing this video and then, after we did the video my daughter wanted to play, so she played for another 10 minutes, and the cool news that i just learned today is that the esc in here has a Lipo cutoff of 3.5 volts. So what that means is that lipo batteries and even lithium ion batteries.
You generally don’t, want to have the voltage go too low if it goes below 3.0 volts, your charger won’t even recognize it and won’t charge it at all. 3.2 gets kind of be critical. You do want to stop using it when you get to about 3.5 3.4, so it’s pretty cool that um, the cutoff is at 3.5, so it won’t operate anymore and it’s at a level that’s not dangerous for your battery. As far as longevity goes so 20 minutes for this, to give you an idea of what that means, this guy is the wltoys uh one, four, four: zero zero one, and this is a buggy. It gets seven minutes so seven minutes twenty minutes, seven minutes 20 minutes and then this guy here not related but it’s, a uh indoor, quadcopter uh jjrc h36, and this gets five minutes. So that gives you an idea of what 20 minutes really means. As far as the rc world is concerned, and so that is very impressive, with this um i’ve used one other hbx product, and that is the 16889 and it is a larger vehicle and it also gets 20 plus minutes so very nice that we get 20 minutes Of run time, with this with this vehicle, so that’s that’s, probably a good buying point in itself. This here is indeed 800 milliamp hours, and so it is a bit of a snug fit here. So you’re not going to fit a ton of batteries, lipo ones are going to be slightly taller and how you accommodate the lipo battery is that right, here, there’s two locations for where this we’re going to call this the battery cover plate.
This piece right here this this black piece and so with a thicker battery. You just raise this screw to the top level and it can accommodate a taller battery um when you’re going back and forth and using lipos, which i do often do. When you put the body clip here and secure it. This thing tends to kind of get loose and it can slip out. It’S only happened once with really aggressive driving, but what you can do is since you’re not using a balance lead for a lithium ion battery. The balance lead for the lipo alarm is is more for the lipo battery, so this one i actually just tuck under here and then it creates just a little bit more thickness if you will, and so that kind of keeps that in place – and this here again Is the jst connector? This is kind of the standard for smaller rcs. That don’t require a lot of amperage uh from the motor here uh. One unusual thing about this rc car is the on switch, so in the on switch we’re going to turn the receipt around. First, because that’s what you should do and over here this is the on switch rather than a toggle switch. You actually need to hold it in so you’re going to hold it in, and then you saw the you probably saw the wheel, twitch and so now that’s on so turn that off again there’s no toggle, you just hold it on and then you let go so Normally, when you’re playing with this we’re going to go ahead and pretend it’s like this you’re always going to turn on the the receiver first that’s important, so that you don’t get any interference that may make your car fly away.
So we turn on the receiver we’re going to leave this here and when i turn the turn that on you’re going to see the servo correct the wheels to go straight, so you’re definitely going to want to wait to do that. Don’T just turn it on and then start playing right away. You want to just give it a few seconds to kind of set itself together, so there you saw it just kind of it’s straightened out on its own. So in the time that i’m talking it’s good and then you can just go ahead and start you can start playing around what i like to do is, instead of starting it off to make sure it’s on you know, first of all, you’re going to see if It switches um if it’s already straight when you turn on you’re, not really gon na, be able to tell so you’re gon na go ahead and just turn. Those left turn this right. My daughter’s crying so i’m gon na go see what’s going on here, i’m back. So my daughter, basically, she fell off her bicycle she’s, been learning how to ride a bike during the scoville 19 thing so anyway, here’s my son, um he’s gon na, go and hold this for us, so you can get a gauge of how how large this transmitter Really is all right: lucas you want to hold this i’m going to show the camera over here show the camera, how big it is.
Okay. So how old are you four four years old, so this is a four year old holding the transmitter? Whoa. Okay, thank you. I mentioned uh, you can modify this um suspension. We talked about so these this here. You could actually swap these out um to correct, basically the toe in and toe out of the front wheels. So this piece is actually a servo mount, so the piece is actually exactly the same: we’re buying replacement pieces of these and using them here and so now there is a little bit of toe out, but you can correct it to be completely toe in toe out Or just straight on, however, you like, i want to show the bottom of this nothing amusing, but just in case you wanted to take a look here. One thing you may be curious about because i know i was – is the durability of the vehicle, so i’ve hit planters before with uh the front many times actually and so it you know it takes a beating. I mean the the lights are right here and they do kind of give and they protect the led lights. But, as you know, one of them already did kind of break. But as far as durability of that front bumper, i mean it’s it’s right there, it’s it’s, decent um and the rear bumper you’re, probably not gon na hit anything only only because uh the back wheels stick out further, but as far as durability, it’s been it’s been Doing well, um one thing i was a little bit disappointed and i was worried about is the the body.
So, as i noted, the truggy style is what i was looking for and so the monster truck rampage body will fit on here. Um. Maybe it may look a little lower and be a little bit goofier, because the the body posts aren’t as high, but i i can replace that um one thing that did get damaged with this is a small part right. There you’ll see that kind of tear, so one thing that may be able to help is just to put maybe some electrical tape here. You know, obviously, prior to taking it out on the road over each hole and just kind of keep that a little bit more durable. I do have a new body coming in and we’ll take a look at that it’s it’s, actually from a different vehicle. It’S also 118 scale, and it is a um, a different style. We’Ll check that out when it comes in just in case you missed anything from when i was moving around it’s gon na kind of give you a little detailed view of the insides here. One note about how the body tour it happens to be right where the spoiler is so, i think during one of the falls there’s just a lot of pressure here and it’s it’s, basically pushing up on that middle. So i wouldn’t be surprised if this one starts to tear i’ll, probably put some electrical tape there, and i would recommend that um before you take your own for its first journey.
So i’ve done a lot of praising of the hbx rampage and hailstorm and let’s go over things i don’t like about it. So the the main thing i don’t like about it is that it’s a little twitchy when you have the transmitter and you’re turning the the steering a little bit goes a long way and so it’s a little bit hard to control. As far as trying to go in a straight line or trying to hit up jumps – and things like that, so in that sense it’s a little bit tough it’s, not as predictable if you’re just going to run doughnuts, which you can do if you’re going to run Just kind of around the field then it’s more than adequate, but if you’re looking to have precision driving which a truggy budget vehicle isn’t really designed for. But if you’re looking for that, then you’re going to be a little bit disappointed with the modifications of adding these arms to do to adjust the toe. It helps it a little bit, but i think i’ve tweaked it so much um using a different transmitter. That’S all kind of haywire, so it’s not going to be, but even out of the box it was. It was very, very twitchy, but with slow mode it’s a lot more um it’s a lot easier to use, but that’s. My only gripe as far as this hbx hailstorm um, everything else durability i mentioned runtime i mentioned – is great and being able to modify it and parts are available.
Part availability is important to me as it should be for you. I think, if you’re going to keep something for a little bit longer term, because things do tend to break sometimes this i mentioned again the only thing that broke was this arm here. It’S called this cvd and then that had snapped. I hid into a curb going full speed um during during a speed test, and that was the only reason, but if i were to run this normally even after i had done some of the clips of this of this video review um, my daughter ran this into One of those um flower flower planters and it it’s doing just fine, so no big deal on that. So i want to give some final thoughts on the high boxing hill storm or the rampage monster truck so 70 bucks from amazon, 50 from aliexpress, um or banggood. So, basically again, this is an all around grade vehicle if you’re gon na get one rc car for both a dad who likes a tweak and for a kid who needs something. That’S, durable uh modify modifiable by the parent that can handle well and goes great speeds, and you got slow mode and normal load and all that, if you’re gon na buy a vehicle that’s. Only for your kid, though, that and that you don’t have much interest in rc cars yourself and just want to get something for your kid. Then i would actually recommend the hs 18301, and so this thing takes a huge beating and i’ve had a number of clips.
Um on my youtube channel uh, with this being bashed and running into things and jumping off from high distances everything. So this is actually a very good car um. You can get this thing for about 40 plus tax, probably about 45 shift to your house and again, very, very durable, so they can crash this all day long and it won’t really matter alright.
