This is just the one i have, so this is the one i will be using and comparing it to um. So these trucks are about the same price um. This one is around 300 um armored, granite four by four is around the same size and price. Om 320, for that um, the traxxas stampede four by four um it’s, much more than that, the haas is even more than that so that’s, something to keep in mind on this side. They’Re all brushless vehicles, the arma and the stampede are available in brushed form. So up for a little bit less money, so if you’re not really into or don’t need the brushless power, you can consider those for a little bit cheaper price. The savage is brushless only and is available for around 320. If you get the el camino body version, det er 350 because of the licensed body um, but first thing you guys want to know for both of these um – is the size comparison, the size you can see, it’s not much smaller than the 10 scale monster trucks. It is still more compact it’s about the same size as like a smaller two wheel, drive buggy or something like that. A lot of tamiya vehicles are around around that size. So if anyone has those, then that’s a bit of a comparison, Du kan. Where reference point you can make um the tires are much smaller. These are stadium, 10 Skala, stadium, truck size, wheels and tires, whereas this one obviously uses monster trucks, wheels and wheels and tires um 2.
8 Tommer. Jeg tror, – and these are 2.2 inch um a lot of these brushless 10th scale monster trucks. These days seem to come with 14 millimeter hexes. This one comes with 14 millimeter hexes. The arma has 14 millimeter hexes. I think the traxxas still uses 12 millimeter but um. Nevertheless, and that kind of is a little bit of a difference between the two wheels and tires wise and um, more specifically with compared to the redcat um, the stock tires on. This are much much nicer than the stock tires on this. This is a very racy. Looking tire and probably works really well on, like a clay surface or like a dirt surface, eller noget i den retning, but on road with with the amount of power that this thing has they don’t grip very well, which is one of the reasons why i have the Um ecx wheels and tires right here with more aggressive, tread um, whereas this one has a really nice compound and feel to it to begin with and um a weird looking, but a tread that works really well so definitely tires wise. The red cat has it beat um body wise uh, the savage used to have a lot of bodies available from hpi. It was a wrangler body of raptor body, the el camino body. I mentioned some bodies available for that i don’t know if those are still being made um, so bodies may be a little bit limited with the savage.
I know a lot of tamiya bodies will be the right dimension for that, but for the amount of abuse that this thing takes, any tamiya body i don’t think will uh handle the abuse that this thing will dish out so um unless you’re gon na be driving. It very carefully or just want it for the looks. I don’t think there’s much options for that, whereas this one being more tent scale and the standard size, a lot of bodies are available for it. A lot of bodies that fit the stampede, the arma any 10 scale body from proline or j concepts or parma or whoever it’s going to fit right on this. So a lot easier to find bodies for this um so for anyone that wants to customize their their stuff or just has want a uh, a replacement for their stock body when it gets all worn out that that is something to keep in mind. Um. Another thing with the red cat in in particular is the red cat uses really beefy almost eight scale sized body clips. So that is a pro that the red cap has also um taking the bodies off. Oh the durability of these bodies, though um durability of the stock body on the savage over here very very impressed. I bashed both of these things really hard and a lot of people have seen the durability test for the for the red cat and the full review for this um, but the savage really really durable body really bash.
This thing really hard, nothing but scratches on it. A little dense in the back, the sticker is kind of chipped off, but other than that. No real damage to this, and actually really really impressed with the durability of this body, it’s also really thick and really nicely molded, så det er, really nice, objectively and subjectively. Også, i think the body looks pretty good um, so the color scheme and the paint scheme and everything i think, it’s a pretty cool. Looking body, i really like the look of the red cat body as well, and this body has also been really durable. Um bashed really hard and there’s a couple of dents from the front from the shop tower the there’s a little little tiny crack back here and where the wheely bar cut out not too bad for the amount of abuse that this thing had. The bed area has a little crack right here, because the bed area is a bit thin, so that area has cracked a little bit but other than that for the abuse that this thing took has been pretty durable. Samlede, it also looks pretty good as well, but taking a look underneath the chassis um. The redcat in particular, has a it’s kind of a smaller chassis, the dimensions of the chassis on this one and that one are actually about the same um. But this one has has a more typical monster, truck with arms and suspension components, so that makes the overall dimensions much larger um if you get a traxxas stampede or haas or um uh armor granite, it’s gon na have a little bit larger chassis.
But despite that, this has a bit more of a traditional style chassis with, like the bathtub style, um battery on one side, motor and all the other electronics on the other um. Whereas this one has a twin vertical plate, design kind of similar to the larger savage. So everything was sandwiched in between the two plates, but it still uses 10 Skala, electronics and the esc is actually mounted in the same spot as the red cat, so that’s kind of kind of cool um, but the battery is goes on one side on this little Uh battery compartment here with little little clips, the little little uh latches here and then the motor and servo are on this side beneath this little like protection, Uh, skid, skid, thingy um. The arms on this are actually, Jeg tror, buggy arms. I believe so they’re much shorter arms, but it does use the same size shocks. It looks like um and otherwise generally it uses 10 scale parts. The only thing that’s difficult about the savage is because of its design, um and the compact size of it. The some of the some of the uh inside bits are a little bit harder to work on. This thing is pretty easy to work on, and these 10 scale trucks are generally easy to work on, because it’s, the of the bathtub style and just everything’s generally easy to access um. Just a couple screws and everything really just like – comes apart and really easy to maintain and stuff like that, whereas this one because of the twin vertical plate design, you can’t, even change your motor mesh or change your pinion gear or anything without taking off the transmission And to take off the transmission, you have to take off this this shroud right here you have to remove this top roll roll bar up here.
You may also want to remove the receiver box for a little bit more room, and then you have to unscrew the entire transmission, and then you can get into the motor. So a lot of a lot of fiddling a lot of screws of to work. On this thing, which is a little bit annoying for a lot of people, i don’t think it’s too bad, because i don’t mind really wrenching on the trucks but um for people that really want to minimize their wrenching time and do a lot more driving with them. That might get a little bit old for some people, so that is something to keep in mind: uh the driveline uh they’re, both full metal transmissions, this one metal transmission. You can hear that this one metal transmission as well very loud um on both uh metal dog bones on both i believe yeah. The redcat uses cvds um for the axles, whereas the, whereas the hpi uses dog bones um, so that’s that’s a difference right there um the arms part support wise arms. For this it looks like they’re the same front and rear um, and the steering knuckles are also interchangeable left to right. So that makes parts a little bit easier to find. Parts for this are also the arms the same front and rear the knuckles are even the same front and rear so suspension parts. Why it’s really easy to find parts for that? So that’s pretty cool the shocks.
This one uses plastic body shocks with preload clips, whereas this one uses plastic body shocks with collars, so that’s more of preference there they’re both really nice shocks really nicely tuned. Both of them are really nicely tuned nicely damp, nice spring rate, so really happy with both shock setups. This one is a little bit more, this one’s a little bit larger in diameter, but again it’s a larger truck, so um that i’ll give it that um. Both trucks have all the wires and stuff um routed. Pretty neatly it’s, not as neat on this out of the box i do have. I did have to do some rearranging for the wires to be a little bit more neater on this, but it’s not too hard to just flip the esc around and that’s. Dybest set, it um what else this one’s also more adjustable because it has adjustable toe links and um pillow ball style suspension, so a little bit more adjustability here this one. They decided to not give you any adjustability for durability. So um not really complaining about that. You don’t really need that much adjustment for these kind of trucks, so not a big deal there. The main issue i had with this truck is the slipper clutch on. This will tend to back off and slip um, so every battery pack, or so you kind of want to tighten down that slipper clutch again um, which is a little bit annoying because this, the transmission is shoved in there uh.
If you, if you like, if you shove a pair of pliers in in here in this gap, you can adjust it without taking it apart, but some people may find that a little bit annoying um and it’s just a matter of the design of the transmission. The slipper clutch is inside the transmission, along with all the grease and stuff which is kind of a dumb design, efter min mening, so a bit of a downside with the transmission design of that this one doesn’t have a slipper clutch at all, det er, just a solid Spool, so that’s good and it’s not going to slip, but also not as good, because under like really heavy use. Some people have ended up breaking the drive center drive cups of these, so that is the downside of not having a slipper clutch um. So something to chew on there, i guess um. The other thing is other other durability aspects um, both of them have been pretty durable. This one frequently broke the steering and the servo horn um, the uh. It also brought broke a stub axle. It also broke. What did i, what else did it break um? Åh, it didn’t break it on mine, Men, like i mentioned, some people end up breaking some of those center drive cups, so some stuff to keep in mind with that. But most of those breakages are, if you write on 3s other than the servo horn that that still tends to break on this this one on 2s.
It did break a lot more parts. It broke the um body body body mounts here. It broke this uh roll roll bar up here it cracked, the chassis uh, though the the chassis cracked, because i jumped it around 10 foot in the air slammed it into a metal rail um at like below freezing temperature, so not really mad at this part. For cracking um, but other than that overall durability wise. I cartwheeled this thing a lot and now the a arm’s broken the suspension parts broke, um the bumpers, didn’t even break so durability of this thing, if you drive it in warmer weather, it may be, it may be really good um and pretty durable um. This one was driven in about the same conditions and it broke granted a little less parts, but um it doesn’t go as fast as this one does. This one has a lot more power than this, so any any crashes with this thing are going to be more catastrophic than with with something like this. I can’t speak on the durability or this the power of the haas or the granite or anything i don’t have experience with those. But those are some things to keep in mind and kind of consider if you’re in the market, for one of these trucks and um kind of wanted to see the pros and cons and comparison between the two so overall um, i won’t really make a decision for You, if that’s up for you to decide um but overall, i think both of these are really cool trucks, de er, really both really fun to drive both kind of fulfill.
The same purpose um. The only thing that this thing has over the redcat is the power and the smaller size is good for some people. Some people may want the standard size so again, that’s sorry about that um that’s that’s up to you um, to decide. But overall, both trucks are pretty durable, Um, really really fast and really exciting to drive both of these things and um either way. I think you’re gon na be relatively happy, Uh, no matter which truck you choose, but if you can have only one of these, i hope this video will help you make that decision.
