How to fix nonresponsive Chevy remote key fob
So, in order to open up the key fob, usually at the bottom here, you can kind of see there’s a little opening, and so you just need to get something in there to pry it open all right. So now that’s open just see what’s, always there watch of dirt and junk. So you might notice, is some corrosion or not corrosion, but it’s really from this. Whatever this black conductor is rubbing off on here so I’m, either trying to clean that up or what I did and we’ll do is just glue some little pieces of aluminum foil to these contacts and that actually creates a better contact. I said I found yeah it’s, so I got us no pieces of aluminum foil. So just take some some rough estimations cut. This up. You don’t need to use superglue.

I love you!!!! Just purchased a Chevy from someone and the fob wasn't working now it is!!! God bless you!!!
I guess this would be what you could do as a last resort but before you do that here is my advice. I have cleaned and worked on these style remotes for many years and the quickest and least damaging way to repair one of these is this. Get two or three cotton swabs you use for your ears and some denatured alcohol then dip the swabs into the alcohol, sling off the excess and gently clean all the control button electrical contact points visible in the video by rubbing off the gunk on both the electrical side and the inside contact point of the rubber buttons. Clean up any other areas as well then let dry then reassemble the remote. I've done this with many liquid damaged remotes and it get's them up and running. This video here is an excellent second option and kudos to the man with the idea.
This worked great! I had been using my key for quite some time to unlock but now the fob does it all. Thanks
Thanks bro good idea works fine.
Works great, exactly what youtube is great for thanks
Didn’t work for me. Mine must have a different issue. I also replaced the battery.
2020 & Covid19 this trick still works Thanks for sharing
Really worked out thanks man
Shit bro, this is probably the first time a tutorial worked for me! Thanks man.
It work.. Thank you save me some $$
Thank you for posting this. Tried it and it worked like a charm. Who would of thought, aluminum foil and super glue?!? Awesome.
While also being skeptical, this did indeed work PERFECT!!! Thanks so much for this awesome video, remote works like a brand new one!!! 🙂

Thank you so much! You are a life saver. This absolutely worked.
I’ve pulled fuses and everything searching for the problem! Thanks
On top is an indent to open it.
Soo is this a regular problem bc I have 4 controllers and they all work the same. Unlock works fine but locking dosnt work therefor i cannot autostart
Thanks for the video. All I had to do was clean the gunk on mine and they both worked perfectly without the aluminum being needed. Probably saved me quite a bit, since universal GM keyfobs won't work with my '04 Tahoe for some reason. Upvoted!
Thank you so much! Had been dealing with a weak remote for quite some time. This was a simple fix. I wish I had searched for a video a long time ago. Cheers!
Great idea and video, I used air ducked aluminum tape with the adhesive backing and also cleaned the contacts with electrical spray cleaner and used a soft toothbrush and compressed air to dry quickly. Works like new.
My parents were gonna buy me a new fob for my Chevy hhr so I decided to try this and it actually worked🤣 Thank you so much

Worked great for me as well. Thanks much!
Mine was completely dead! Did this and the locking horn scared the sh*t out of me because I never heard it. Thank you very much! Works like new!
It worked like a charm!!! Perfect!!!
I'm real sad it didn't work for me
Hell yeah! Thank u! My old keyless entry remote works great finally! Wish I would’ve seen this video 3 yrs ago because I’ve been frustrated w/ the way it hasn’t been working! I followed your video & now works every time I push the buttons! Thank you!!
this did not work for my 2004 chevy express – what did work was removing the battery and replacing it followed by holding down both the unlock and lock buttons for 7 seconds while inside the van. (on the inside of the remote it says to do this.)
Thought my fob battery needed replacement awhile back but no go. Just fixed my Volvo C70 by cleaning contacts with rubbing alcohol and a piece of foil. Also carefully bumped up the very fragile battery contacts – Thanks Erich …using key in door last few weeks sucked
