I don’t know but let’s find out guys welcome back to jacob’s rc, where we buy bash and build use. Rc cards there’s a ton of different videos already out there on this. So if you don’t know the duct tape and fishing line trick are two of the most common things that people do to stop their tires from ballooning and that’s. If your tires are not already belted so here’s, what you’ll need already laid out right here on the table? Some fishing line, some duct tape, some super glue and shoe goo. Now i don’t know if we’ll need this, but we’ll wait and see so for both options. It’S pretty cheap each one of these items right here, less than five dollars each so it’s, not gon na break the bank. You can walk in right now to any hardware, store or large grocery store like a walmart, something like a target. Things like that and you’re gon na be able to pick these up. So i got these tires right here that i’ve been running on my success. Slash for about a month now and they’ve been pretty great they’re called the hobby park. 2.8 monster truck tires with 12 millimeter hexes on the wheels i like to call them the budget pro line trenchers because they cost less than half of a full set of pro lines, and they got the grip to match. The only problem with these, of course, is that they’re not belted, so they balloon way too much.
Let me quickly show you how these look mounted on without anything done to them. No fishing line trick. No, nothing and, of course, they’re not going to be pre glued onto the wheel. Just so you guys can see how bad they balloon. So anyways. You guys saw the tires ballooning, obviously it’s a little more exaggerated, because they’re not already glued on to the to the wheels right there but that’s. What i’m gon na do the fishing line and the gorilla tape trick see which one works best. So i think i’m gon na start off with the fishing line right here, because it’s, probably gon na, be the easiest and less messy. So the trick here is that there’s going to be a little groove right down the middle, where you’re just going to kind of wrap the fishing line around. I don’t know how many times i’m going to wrap it around, but wrap it around then put a little bit of super glue on the knot that you do with the fishing line and then that’s pretty much gon na be it’s it’s, pretty easy. So for these that i have right here, obviously there’s only one little groove down the middle but let’s say you have the stock slash tires. Then you can kind of see there’s multiple different tracks, where you can kind of thread the fishing line through it’s, going to be a little bit harder on these. If you do multiple different kind of patterns down here on both sides and it’s, going to be a lot stronger than just one down the middle, so here’s the fishing line that i got to be honest, i’m, not too fancy with the fishing.
So this was pretty much the strongest that i could find off the shelf at a local walmart, but if you’re into fishing, then you guys can do your own research, i’m, pretty sure they’re stronger and i guess thinner fishing line that you could use. But this is what i got Music all right, so i got the fishing line done. You guys saw me, do two full turns around cut off the excess. If there was a little bit of stragglers, then i just burned it off. Don’T want to get too close to the edge, so then it kind of gets unraveled and then to kind of top it off. I got a little bit of super glue and then just on the little knot put some super glue on both kind of loops. Over here to kind of keep it together – and this is pretty much 50 pounds of resistance – maybe a little bit more with those two loops, so we’ll see how this one does, but let’s move on to the gorilla duct tape. Alright. So here we have the duct tape, gorilla tape, any type of duct tape, doesn’t, really matter, it’s a one inch roll, which i think for these tires right here we should have gone with the two inch we’ll see how this does. Basically, what you’re going to need is get your duct tape out, get your tire flip it inside out careful with the foam don’t rip it all right.
So now that we got the tire inside out, this is where you’re going to lay out the duct tape and make sure to clean off the inside, which i think this is pretty clean. I cleaned it earlier there’s a little bit of dirt, but i don’t think it’s going to matter. We’Ll go with this for now so i’ve seen people lay down the gorilla tape or duct tape then use some shoe goo and then use some super glue. But i think we’re, just gon na get rid of the shoe goo just use super glue to kind of lay down on the creases when we lay down on the tire over here, it’s gon na make it a little bit less messy, which is what i’m going For here i don’t want to spend too much time, so let’s get started guys. This is a lot harder than it looks, make sure just to get this perfectly around straight and even shape this to the tire make sure there’s, no creases or anything or spaces left. All right, i don’t think we’re gon na need the super glue, because when i wrapped it around and made sure you know it wrapped a little bit over the previous cut or the previous edge, i think this is going to do just fine all right we’re, going To do a quick test on the right right here is the duct tape gorilla tape, tire on the other side we got the fishing line, so left is the fishing line.
We got 6s hooked up we’re not going to do full throttle on 6s, because there’s already a blooper where these things kind of just fell off all right all right, so that wasn’t that bad. That was the duct tape tire i think, compared to stock without anything on it. It’S doing the trick right now keep in mind the tires aren’t glued onto the wheels right now so it’s going to look a lot better, but very impressed so i’m going to go ahead and go to the fishing line real, quick and see how it stacks up. Music, okay, so you guys saw the fishing line. We definitely have a clear winner, but i think i kind of messed up or i guess i actually mounted these uh in reverse, so that’s my fault, but anyways. You guys can see that the fishing line in the middle was holding up, but there’s no grooves on. You know the outer edges to keep the outer side from not ballooning. So i think, if you have like some of these wheels, where there’s multiple kind of grooves down the middle down the edges, you’re going to have better luck with the fishing line. But for now the duct tape is what works for my two wheel drive slash all right, so there you guys have it duct tape versus fishing line. For me, the duct tape ended up winning out. But if you have tires with multiple grooves, then the fishing line is gon na is gon na compete pretty well with the duct tape.
So let me know what you guys end up doing. Let me know what you guys do to kind of stop your tires from ballooning.
