eBay Score, Vintage Tamiya Ta02 all Aluminum Nugget of Goodness, RC Touring Car
I wanted to show these new shirts. These are available in link below through teespring. They are actually really really soft, our everyday logo. I know it’s backwards, but whatever um yeah, these things are fantastic. I actually wore these out at uste, got a medium and a small. They both kind of fit sleeves actually long enough for me, so check them out below. If you’re interested appreciate it all proceeds, go back to the channel and uh help fuel all this madness. So let’s get started what’s going on everybody. Welcome back to rc every day, so you’ve been with the channel for a little while you’ve seen i’ve had this weird infatuation with 90s touring cars and my favorite being the tamiya to my ta02 and that’s, the one i had the very first rc hobby grade and Ever since i’ve loved them i’ve had a couple over the years and had to let them go but got a few now got another one here. This is a beautiful, beautiful nugget. So outside we’ve got, Mislim, it’s an abc hobby’s body. It has light buckets everywhere. To je., A 300 zx it’s got several sets of body holes in it and it’s, but it’s not beat up too bad it’s, pretty solid, i’ve readjusted and made more body holes got it aligned, pretty good, not digging the stance or anything. Yet it’s got foam tires on it, but uh it’s what’s, underneath that that counts, so it’s i’ve never actually seen one of these bodies in person, so it’s, not a bad body.
It looks like a lot of work. A lot of glue, a lot of light buckets bumper on the rear is a separate piece. The headlights, i guess, where you can make them popped up or closed it’s, got light buckets for even the side. Marker lights, kind of cool somebody did a pretty good job. Painting it’s a little thin needs a finishing coat inside to seal it up, but we’re, not gon na worry about the body, because we’ve got this for the channel all right. So this is where the magic happens: um the original tio2s had red gear boxes, some of the short wheelbase or short wide. Međutim, you said i want to imagine it: they had a black or the original ones. I think had a silver gearbox um. I think some of the like the toyota pre runner or the whatever it was toyota truck or the f 150. The stadium trucks that came on this chassis had black gear boxes as well. So we’ve got an original red rear gear box. We got a black front. One no idea what’s what but it’s all the same, and everything else is aftermarket and i’ve never actually seen one of these chassis in person before it’s, similar or a different version of a gpm aluminum chassis. Some of the only pictures i’ve found online that somebody on facebook shared with me. It had a little bit different design in here in the brace but it’s overall.
I think that is what it is, but um, not a hundred percent sure, but either way it is very well used. I bought this before usde and it came from florida, but it was a couple hours away from where we were going down there. So i couldn’t just swing by and pick it up and then it got lost in the mail because of the ice storm and it set somewhere in between here in florida for two weeks and then magically showed up one day. But we’ve got a little bit of everything, so the main thing drawn is it has a brand new hobby wing brushless system? Is it an easy run? I can’t read it from way over here, ali uh. So it’s got a decent little setup in it. Servo’S, an old futaba, no idea, it sounds, sounds like metal gear, but i don’t, i can’t read what it says where it’s mounted um. So we got that no radio. I have my little old scx10 tactic system we’re, going to throw on this for a test run because that’s part of the reason i got this. It has every option. Every bell and whistle it’s all very well used and we don’t have to feel bad about running it. I bought that original ta01, a while back with the audi body, and i just couldn’t, bring myself to to drive it even just around the shop. But once you see the bottom of this, it is pretty hammer so yeah.
This has seen some love seen some use. Um everything looks good, though it rolls pretty good feels like the bearings and stuff i’ve checked the ones on the on the wheels. Everything seems good about it: it’s got aluminum front under gearbox, housing cover thing all aluminum, control, arms, aluminum hubs or knuckles in the front seat, hubs front and rear. We have a rear, uh sway bar. It looks like the factory oem, tamiya ones, which are very expensive. If you find them nowadays, no front sway, bar we’ve got the lightweight, i think that’s, the lightweight driveshaft. I never had a tamale one. I always had the uh coast. I had a coast, carbon fiber, one which i cannot find any anywhere. So if anybody has one or knows the whereabouts of a tio2 coast, carbon fiber drive shaft comment below and get in touch with me. I probably won’t want to pay what they’re worth now but i’d like to know that they still exist. I broke mine years after the car had been torn apart. I found it in my miscellaneous parts bin and i think i was using it to pry something open with and it snapped like an idiot, but oh well, live and learn. So we got aluminum shocks. We’Ve got carbon fiber upper shock towers. Opet, all the suspension is aluminum. Everything rolls good, it looks hammered. It looks, it’s completely dusty and filthy, but everything spins, nice and free. The ball bearings look good.
I haven’t oiled them or anything so we’re just going to rock it like it is, and if we break something we’ll replace it. This will be my my fun runner so i’m going to install this little radio and throw a lipo on this and see what happens. All right guys that took entirely too long. I uh not good with these things. It doesn’t have a programming card i’m, not sure. If this even had one but um it seems to be happy on 2s and the only 2s i have with the dean’s connector is too big to fit in there. So we’ve just removed the mount and uh yeah zip tied it. Tako, oh now, it’s not happy anymore. It worked just a second ago. All right got it sorted out so body’s on, take it out to the shop and see what it does seems pretty quick. So far, Glazba, Glazba, yes oops all right, so that is uh. Quite a bit faster than i expected um, i still got some of the settings messed up it. So you have your forward break and reverse, but it’s doing reverse they’re backwards. So when i hit throttle it doesn’t go, it acts like a break and then i have to press it twice and then it goes. But as soon as i hit reverse boy it’s wide open throttle and takes off on me. Um knock the headlights out of it already got the lens covers in my pocket.
I don’t have enough open space in there to really test this thing out, but that can be fixed. This is going to be a good uh, good basher body, but man up that was pretty fast. Even on a two cell we’ve been all the body mounts again, pretty quick don’t, like the foam tires on that concrete, To je, very uncontrollable. With that much speed um. I imagine drift tires would be even worse, but i’ve got some really good. Looking drift tires that would look good, filling out this body, so i don’t know. Let me know in the comments what you all want to see with this. I know i’ve got some more tio2 body mounts floating around in my junk box, so we can swap those out. These were bent pretty bad to start with that’s part of the reason the holes aren’t drilled in the right spots, but i don’t know drove fantastic, no issues that servo is cordless. I don’t know exactly what that entails: it’s a futaba s, 9, 000 Ili 5 000, or something and uh it’s, pretty quick and uh pretty smooth, so we’re gon na rock it. But i appreciate you guys watching you know it’s, not custom rat rod builds, but you know this is the history of rc. This is the stuff i grew up with. This is the kind of rig that i wanted to build as a kid, and i just couldn’t afford it, because all that aluminum stuff was very expensive and um.
You know second third, fourth, fifth hand: it’s a lot more affordable, it’s all scratched up i’m gon na scratch it up anyway.
