I took the shell off because it’s fpv, so who cares what it looks like, and i have crossfire in here – it’s underneath that little cover see that at the end of the video – and you can see that i’m using the original remote. So if you want to know how to do this, uh stay tuned to the end of the video but i’m. Just gon na do a little exploring here at this park that i’ve been at before not a lot of people. So hopefully i don’t run into any curious kids and when i want to pick this up so i don’t want to go too far away, but yeah it’s working, pretty good. You can see and have the recording from the air unit as well as the goggles and we’ll, see how this does on the ground. Dobro, let’s go. Oh to je, a bit more bumpy. I don’t have any telemetry information. So can’t tell you my signal, strength other than the video signal strength, which is pretty strong, not that far yeah i would need to. I think i guess i would need to do gps and a flight controller, and then i don’t even have battery voltage for the car i’m, just going kind of straight away from me here and oh i’m, already getting uh some breakup in the video no problem with The control link – Ok, it’s kind of this – is kind of what i expected – i’m really low to the ground.
So you know there’s a lot of ground clutter interference from the video side, but i just wanted to see how this system would do get on some smoother ground here. Maybe i’ll get up a little higher because maybe i might be a little low i’m on i’m. Two bars uh video right now: no problem with control; Ok, three bars of video 30 megabits, 50 megabits, it’s kind of bouncing up and down let’s come back. This way let’s try and stay in the the hill here, and i think that video is a little bit better. Yeah 50 megabits here, maybe it’s uh down. There is a little bit below my line of sight and when the ground gets in the way now you can’t see uh the the signal can’t get through well crossfire is not having any problems. It was way farther than i could get, because i just went down a little hill there and my video went to red it’s like one bar now, but i still have like 30 megabits of video. So i i trust the uh bit rate more than the signal strength and i am using the iflight patch antenna so i’m pointing at least i’m trying to point my head right at where the car is 24 megabits of video and yeah it’s, getting a little bit Worse here now, Ja sam, at like 16 – i just i saw it drop to like nine. I think uh it’s getting a little blocky a little choppy now, so i will put up on the screen what this is.
This is about. As far as i think i can get on the ground, at least at this location, what i think this uh distance is, i mean crossfire, is having no problems all i’m on 500 milliwatts of power, with dynamic power on and i’m, not having any issues with control. No latency problems just totally fine, just a video, so maybe what i could do is um replace the stock antennas and with on you know, with some sma to mmcx connectors and then attach some longer antennas like the 150 centimeter or 150 millimeter antennas, 15 centimeter tennis. That might get me a little bit further off the ground. I mean it’s gon na be a few more inches but it’s the ground clutter that’s causing the problem. So this is getting on the ground here, To je, not as rough so i’m. Pretty close here, um it’s, not that far away no problems with video i’m actually to my right here and since i’m, not trying too far i’ll go behind me. This little road goes behind me. I got red video now yeah there’s, someone on the path over there. So can’t keep going that way. Oh the grass is very bumpy. You can hear you can kind of hear it it’s behind me. Nwo. You can see me there yeah it’s kind of better that i went with a bigger car. It can kind of go through this rougher terrain better than uh the smaller one yeah, so crossfire definitely works no issues, it’s the video that’s all kind of what i expected now, if you guys have any more further suggestions: other mods, maybe gps flight control or whatever Uh more on the suggestions on the video.
Let me know in the comments below talk to you later all right, so let’s take a quick look at how this is put together so i’m using the tbs crossfire nano receiver, pwm adapter. So this actually allows you to put the receiver in here and actually solder it onto these eight pins, and this actually comes with the receiver already soldered on. If you want to buy it already put together, but you just buy the adapter for like five dollars. I’Ve elected to not solder the receiver on there, because i might want to use receiver somewhere else so i’m, just using the wires and i’m only using two channels channels, one and two, as you can see there, along with five volts and ground it’s on the underside. Like that, and if you want to use the other channels, three four five six, you obviously will have to solder up those wires to those holes there, and the other difficulty is that since there’s, since my receiver already has wires solder on there, the holes are filled With solder – and i have to have to remove all that – to get them onto these pins, which is kind of a hassle – and so i just went and let’s go just this way here and then just shove. Everything back into the receiver box that the original receiver was in and you can see. I just have the two channels. I think the channel one is for steering the steering, servo and channel two is for the esc or the throttle, and that is going to correspond to the aileron and elevator sticks on the transmitter that the crossfire is on and we’ll talk about the rest here.
In a second okay, so on the controller side, i’ve got it bound up to the crossroad nano on my jumper tea lights. Možete vidjeti, we got a signal and you can control the steering with the aileron channel. You can hear it off camera here, it’s off to the side. Here i can’t the car’s too big to put on the table and then throttle is going to be on the elevator channel. So basically forward is, is uh, pushing it forward and then reverse is pushing the stick backwards because it is a reversing esc. So when the channels in the middle that’s, when it’s going to be neutral and you’re going to have basically the car is not going to be moving at all and then on the setup side. Here we have to go into the crossfire configuration and for the nano receiver. You want to change the outputs on channels, one and two, so normally, output, one and two on a multi rotor would be like crossfire tx and crossfire rx, but we’re running pwm here. So we just want to run the uh channels, one and two, which is the aileron elevator channels directly to the receiver over pwm and those will just be output via pwm. If you change it to channel one and two, obviously the other channels, three whatever and up aren’t being used they’re, not even connected, so only the channels, one and two are going to be used. Nwo, if you want to control the car with the setup like this, with your basically your hobby greed, transmitter and just use the right stick to control the car for steering and throttle, you can definitely do that.
But you know, Mislim, that’s completely boring and i went ahead and i’m going to go ahead and show you how to use the the original remote basically for the steering and the trigger there this. Uglavnom, this is a standard kind of you know. Traditional hobby grade, um or i don’t know it’s called hobby grade, but this is what came with the rc car and if you want to use this methodology, you can basically pull the receiver out of your rc car and use the original transmitter using this method. So this is how i actually i’m driving it i’m, not actually using the the actual transmitter here i’m using this as a go between, and this is how you do it. So what you need here is a audio cable like this here, it’s a trs, not a trrs that basically has uh three positions here, so this signal is going to be on the outer tip here and then the ground is going to be here. The middle is not being used for anything, so there should be three connections in this cable. I i soldered to the this server wire here: Ja sam, actually using the ground and the signal, not the red, which is power, and this is going to be plugged into the trainer port on your radio. In this case, it’s right here on the tea lights and then and in trainer mode, when you have this setup for trainer, it will output um.
It will accept a ppm signal from uh, wherever in this case i’m, using this little adapter here. I’Ll explain this here. In a second that’s taking a signal from the original receiver, that was that i pulled out of the rc truck there and i don’t even know what um the protocol this. Is it doesn’t really matter, because the original trigger remote here is actually talking to this remote. So it’s all basically it doesn’t really matter what it is and then i’m just taking the pwm signals that are coming out of this receiver for channels. One and two, kao što možete vidjeti ovdje, basically the same ones that were plugged in on the truck and then that’s gon na be pumped into this little adapter. This is a the signal adapter that basically will take the pwm signals and then there’s some sort of magic in here and then out of this here. This is channel nine uh. The ppm signal gets sent out and is received or sent out to this little audio jack. That goes into the radio and then the radio will take that signal and if you put into trainer mode it will output that via the to the crossfire module and send it to the truck. Now i’ll put a link to the in the video description to this item here. The instructions are all in chinese, but i’ll put a little screenshot here of what google translate translated it to uh, to take a little bit of time to figure out that if you have a pwm signal coming in here on channels, one and two, then the actual Ppm out is on channel nine and not channel ten.
You think it’d be says, ppm out here s plus out it’s, actually um channel nine as where it’s coming out, and then you need some way to power all this. It requires. Očito, the receiver needs five volts. So i just have a little battery here that outputs five volts and you get another polarity, the ground’s on the bottom there – and i just powered off of this channel here – channel 10 and once you have a binding, you should have a solid light here on the Receiver i’m going to go ahead and i’m going to plug this into my radio in the trainer port. Ok, so on my model here, you’ve got to go to the page. That says special functions and i have sc set up as the trainer basically turned the trainer function on and off, and it just sets the sticks and that’s. This switch right here. So when i activate this, then the trigger remote will be active and then the this transmitter is becomes inactive. Ali onda, if i want to regain control with this radio, i just turn off the trainer function and i have control again so go ahead and activate the trainer function here and now we can control the car with the trigger remote and that’s. How this is all set up alright, so this is how the air unit looks like on the car. This happens up tied to this front post and i’m, not going to be using the the shell or the body on this one, just because um yeah, it’s fpv.
So no one’s going to no one’s going to see it and i’m not definitely going to be seeing i’m, not driving this line of sight. I got the air unit zip tied here and you see the other four wires are not connected to the uart and the s bus, just the power right there – and i have it also connected here to the balance lead so a little bit closer. Pogledaj ovo. It just plugs into the balance, lead to provide power, and then i just have that on a connector, and i just manually connect it um here’s. The other end right here to power that up crossfire receivers inside here where the old receiver was – and this is the uh immortal t antenna so we’ll see what the range is like on the ground.
