Hey guys welcome back to tamil legends and, once again thank you for stopping by you know what i’m going to say. Don’T you look at it, look at it, so this has been an absolute superb project, i’ve loved every second of this um. So the original car is, as you can see, the tamiya subaru um bias, zed r d, sport, um it’s on the ttr2 chasse. It first came out in march 2015 and it’s on the tamiya part number 58607 um and that’s the standard box out for it. So when i set out on this project, i i kind of had the finished car sort of in my mind. So it was all about the body shell for me on this it’s, just a ttl2 chassis there’s, nothing special about underneath the shell, but the shell itself is really badass. In my opinion and um, i thought i could make it look better. Obviously, you’ll tell me if i have at the end of this video um, so i wanted to do a a subaru tribute basically using the um old subaru logo, livere um, which was on the subaru impreza rally, carving 98 monte carlo. So i wanted to use not the not all the decals, not the sort of rally stuff, but just the actual big subaru logos against the ps16 body, shell uh and in my head. Just those decals on the car were going to make. It look superb, and on top of that, going with the sort of metallic blue and gold subaru theme, i was going to use the um the subaru impreza 98 gold wheels as well.
So that was the plan so step. One was the the chasse so i’m, putting a little slide show up. As you can see bog standard now. This has actually been my first ever dry, build i’ve ever done, i’ve always threatened. I was gon na do one uh, but i never did so this. This doesn’t have any grease in it whatsoever. Um, just the bushes um went together really well, i’ve got to be honest, it’s it’s, a shelf queen that’s. Why i didn’t do the chasse i’ve got lots of ttr2 chassis that run so it’s? If you know, if i want to run it with this fantastic new body, shell on, i can just put that body shell on one of my running ttr tools, so i didn’t really go to town on the chassis. So stage two was cutting all the bits out. Now this body shell’s got about 16 pieces to it. Um so you’ve got again. I’Ll put a slide, show up of what i did, but you’ve got the main body. Shell you’ve got the wing which is in one two. Three four that’s in five pieces you’ve got the light bucket, so there’s four of ours and then you’ve got the sort of extended mud guard fenders, whatever you call them so there’s, four of those as well, two mirrors um. So i got it all cut out and how i wanted it i’m, just making notes now, so i don’t lose anything at that point.
I put the gold subaru wheels on and got the stance correctly, so i’ve lowered the ttr2 and i’d also widened it as well, because i really wanted the arches and the wheels within the arches to look correct, and i think that was it for that stage. Right and then we move on to step three now something changed. I had um i’ll put picture up. I had a set of um adjustable offset alloy wheels. I bought ages got for another project and when i got them the picture i’m showing you were the blue ones, with the silver rims, i actually got the silver inners, but the black rims. Now, unfortunately, i thought they looked great just when i saw the picture of them and they do look great, but when because it’s got black rim, when you put the tire on it makes the tire look like it’s got a really sort of large profile to it. It just the black, the black rubber blends into the black rim, and it just doesn’t look like a low profile tire, so i never used them anyway. I thought i’ll just stick them on here and i started messing about with the offsets and stuff so again. I’Ll put a slideshow up of what i did um, so i got those wheels to fit and i was really happy with them. So what i did was i sprayed the rims, the black rims up in silver and i’ve got.
To be honest, i thought it went together really well, what did we do after that? So uh, then we got the cockpit cut out. It’S very straightforward got that mounted in and then we masked the whole car off and as you can imagine, there was a fair bit of masking because the front sits the front splitter, the two side sills and the rear splitter all had black in it uh and Then we painted it and, as i said, um just get normal standard um. I forgot the color of what p acid the black is it’s, just a standard black and then obviously ps16 for the blue and i’ve got to be honest by the time i took it. All off i was just like this thing is gon na look absolutely gorgeous. Then we got on the step 4, which was getting all the decals on it. Um and again, as you can see by the pictures, just everyone you put on the car just got better and better, and what do we do as well? And we also obviously got the cockpit finished. Um cockpits make a hell of a difference to these cars. It’S. Not just it’s it’s, not just a coolness of having a driver figure which is within the cockpit it’s, the full cockpit itself, because it just fills the whole car up and it just adds some and just another dimension onto that build if, if i’m, honest um i’m. Now, starting to fit um driver cockpits to all my road cars because it transforms them to be honest and step.
Five was basically just putting it all together. So i had the finished shell. We mounted the um cockpit, we got the wheels and then we eventually mounted the um, the car onto the chassis and um yeah. I’M up. You can agree. This thing is absolutely gorgeous, so i think what i’ll do now is i’ll drag the camera over and we’ll have a close up on the car and uh. You guys can. Let me know what you think and there we have it. Um i’m, absolutely head ovals. With this one honestly, i just think it is superb it’s way better than i envisaged it to come out, spent a lot of time, getting it low enough and wide enough for the wheels to be correct and look correct. Um within the arches very important, and the important thing is for me that this car can run in this stance – it’s, not it’s, not too long. Obviously, it would have to run on a perfectly flat surface, but there’s still some suspension movement in it and nothing’s grinding on the floors um this, because this is like um. This is not perfectly flat. Um it’s like a sheet um, so it does. Sometimes it can make the cars look a little bit lower than they actually are if it’s bunched up and then from that angle, i i just think you can see the sort of cockpit doing its job there again, it’s, not just a driver which is cool enough, But it’s the whole thing where it just fills the whole cockpit and that’s.
What it’s supposed to do, isn’t it but um what an absolute thing i’ll do it i’ll show you the front back and sides now so from the side is not a bad angle. For this car at all, and then from that angle, which is just a little bit lower, but i just think you get to appreciate the kind of overall stance of it when the camera’s down low and from the front and for me personally, there isn’t a bad Angle for this car, it just looks gorgeous from every angle, but the money shot for me is the next one, which is the back end. So for me, that’s the money shot that just is absolutely beefy as hell. I just absolutely adore it. I just think everything comes into its own, probably the sexiest back end i’ve, seen on a tamiya car to be honest and got me, and i am being honest, i’ve seen a lot, but i think this one wins and the final close up shot um, where you Can kind of see the um driver figure in more detail and the actual detailing on the cockpit? What a thing, my friends, what a thing so as i was putting this together, something really interesting happened. Um to me now, as i said at the beginning of video, when i kind of sort of dreamed up how i wanted this car to look, i thought it would just need the actual subaru decals and the gold wheels and um.
I said in the the first ever video i did with this. It would be a less is more kind of thing. It wouldn’t be a lot of like racing car decals on it, but um once i got the settled on the wheels and i got the black and the blue all painted up, and then i mounted it on the car. It was just looking absolutely gorgeous. Then i put the um sort of basic car decals on, so the window surrounds the grills and lights and things like that and it looked absolutely gorgeous so i’m. Sat there creaming myself, i’m thinking as soon as i put these subaru stickers on it’s, just going to go it’s going to go up two levels so i’m, like i’m rushing, i cut them out and i mounted the two sides and the front i left the back End because i wasn’t sure what i was going to do with that, and i have to be honest – i looked at it and it was like that is not working and i was a little bit gutted for a while. I was j i just kept looking at and turning around and i’m thinking without the subaru decals, the car just looked so much better as a standard. Basically sporty road car – and i was like am i gon na – have to rip these decals off and just sort of settle for a road going version of this car anyway um i kind of got through it, and i just started adding bits of decals here and There, where i wanted them so obviously the numbers um i did, the wing get decals.
I tried to get all of the colorful subaru ones around still wasn’t liking. It um and i fitted just about all the decals that i planned to put on, and i wasn’t feeling it at all, and it was one of those things for me where it had too many spaces on it that were it needed filling in with decals. So i i got a lot more decals out and it was mainly the bonnet area, so i got. I got all the decals how i wanted it. I wanted to put two stis on the the roof. I put an extra one or two decals down on this sill to take it the full length um, the brz one’s at an angle i think they’ve worked a tree and then just lots of little ones around and um. When i kind of put the last one on i was looking at, i was thinking that looks that looks a lot better, but i’m gon na be out. I want loving it, so i put it to the side, went to bed and, as always, got up the next day and it’s sat and i’m like okay, you were just getting tired of it. Do you know i’m mentally tired of looking at it, and it was just like yeah. That is absolutely superb. So, in conclusion, with all my dribble, this is 100 my favorite and i think i believe, it’s the best road car i’ve done so far.
Now that used to be my posh, let me get this right. My porsche 911 gt1 that’s done in the porsche 959 tribute that that’s always been my favorite, but i’ve got to be honest. This one beats it for me um. I can’t i’d love to tell you why it’s better in my opinion, but i can’t really it’s just i think it’s obviously it’s the overall thing, but i think it’s, a stance of it as well. I just i don’t, i don’t think it could be sort of looking any better than it does right now again, just my opinion, there’s good. No doubt some of you guys in the comments are not gon na. Like it. Oh one thing i must say quickly for anyone with ocd, like myself um, i know the tire decals are incorrect. Obviously these are bridge stones and it should have pirellis on. I totally understand that, but the only sheet of tie decals – i have of these ones – and i have these because these are the best looking ones because they really do fill the tires up. If you get like michelin’s or even the pirellis, you can get they’re a lot smaller, whereas these are kind of in your face and then because it brings the tire alive, then the wheel comes alive, so yeah it’s not ideal. I understand but um a lot of my cars do not have the correct tire decals on um and it’s, not me being tight as it were.
I could buy a sheet of each like the the porsche should have done look on, but they don’t look the best. I like these, so although that makes no sense to the purists who’s looking about looking at pirelli sticker and a bridge door, i get it, but for me it’s all about the looks and they do it anyway guys. Let me know in the comments what you think to this. Is this my best build yet i’m saying it is hundred percent. It is oh i’ll show up now so i’ll end this video here. So thanks so much for watching it. It really is massively appreciated.
