This is not my brand new traxxas nitro wrestler. This belongs to nitro gang member mike i’m. Doing him a solid and doing a proper nitro nitrogen break in, of course, i’d rather be outside right now getting it started, but i’m sitting here in the nitro gang studios and i’m thinking about well. Could i locate it in these old rc magazines and of course, i found some classic vintage traxxas nitro ads we’ll take a look at them in a little bit, but the main thing i really want to talk about is making sure you do your pre start checks Correctly on these nitros people just get these out of the box boom, put some fuel, it starter up, and then you know it’s a disaster. They don’t break them incorrectly. So in this video i will do my best to give you the best break in process. Of course, some things might be emitted. I highly recommend you read the proper traxxas manual that this thing comes with. It is very good, in fact, let’s take a look at exactly what’s in the box, so we can uh refresh our minds on this. It comes with a brand new fuel bottle. We have the traxxas tqi link. This does have the tsm, which is like the gyro, so you have the traxxas stability management system. The traxxas nitro rustler is one of the oldest names in the entire hobby, in fact it’s. So old, i just want to show you guys before we continue.
This is an october 2000 issue, a radio control car action magazine, and i have a blue sleeve paper here. What do you think it’s going to be well, of course, it’s the traxxas nitro russell? This is the outgoing body. They used to call it like the pro graphics body. Of course, i kind of like some of these chassis and bodies here back in the day, but the nitro rustler is and i’ll say it again. As i said in the old video, the longest running name in a nitro rc history that you could still buy brand new today and in fact it is also one of the fastest believe it or not. Here is another magazine. This is a slightly newer one from 2004. The cover here is the tamiya tnx, one of my all time, favorites and hopefully one day, i’ll get one. So what do i have indexed here? Let’S take a look at it. We have another traxxas, nitro, rustler and notice. The speed they claim that it’s got 51.8 miles an hour guys. That is insane, and i read what this little asterisk is here, and it says that it is the speed in rc nitro magazine test june 2013, so they do even have a source. I am highly surprised that their speed rating here actually has a source i’ve, never seen that before and attracts a sad, usually they just say 50 plus something like that. If you look at the modern traxxas, nitro rustler, it will say 50 plus on the website.
This is a highly verifiable and reliable top speed. You’Re not gon na get faster than 50 miles an hour even out of most two speeds. Unless you go with the king of speed, the tracks is jado let’s take out the car itself here it is, if you’ve been in the hobby for some time. This is nothing new to you. You’Ve seen these pretty much everywhere. This is one of the most common old school nitros that you can get. It is what’s called a two wheel: drive stadium, truck stadium truck just means, you know, it’s a longer chassis like this, although it’s a regular 10 scale, chassis it’s, not long. It just looks like it is, but it’s kind of a slammed look, this style of chassis, not the nitro rustler, but this style of two wheel drive stadium truck chassis was uh used in competitive racing during the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Of course, all of the championship, winners from team, low c, uh and team associated have since been discontinued, but the traxxas nitro wrestler is still out there kicking it and you could still buy yourself one today now. It is true that prices have gone up on the entire traxxas model lineup recently, but we’re not talking about a super insane price hike. We’Re talking about you know, 30 30. At most, if you’re gon na be spending 300 plus on a new nitro, you know what’s, another 20 or 30 for you.
It’S not like you’ve got another alternative, you’re, basically stuck with some kind of off brand hsp or exceed, which are still very good nitros. But in terms of you know, modern uh, actual brands that are not all brand you’re stuck with um hpi, which is great for today and you’re stuck with traxxas, i don’t mean to say you’re stuck but uh. It is what it is. These are older chassis, but listen when you run a nitro and you enjoy running rich and loud and you like putting fuel in you, know, it’s it really doesn’t matter how old the chassis is. I guarantee this video will have a tons of comments saying how old it is man, it sucks, because it’s old saying something sucks, because it’s old it’s, not even an argument don’t, even make that a position because well i’ll still respond to all the comments. But i will respond to those comments with a certain type of way. If you know what i’m saying just because it’s old means absolutely nothing in terms of upgrades, of course, i know people always think things need upgrades all the time. Uh i’m of the opinion that if it doesn’t break don’t fix it, but i do. I would say that the fact that this comes with a plastic uh pipe here, not ideal. If you can source um a aluminum tuned, pipe, probably from a revo or something else or make something fit, they sell a whole bunch of aluminum tuned pipes for these, but for the break in and for general purpose running, even this plastic pipe guys, it will give You 50 miles an hour it’s been my experience that, even when you put on an aluminum tuned pipe unless it’s like a significantly good pipe, your overall speed is like a plus of at most five percent difference at most um.
At best, you will only notice a change in the way the motor sounds and a lot of times. People think, just because it sounds deeper man. This thing is much faster, well, that’s, just not reality. You got to realize a lot of speed claims. You know when people say: oh, i got a different pipe and now now my nitro is like much much faster. A lot of those claims are based on nitros from the early 2000s and the 1990s, especially the hpi nitro rs4. That came with like a baffle exhaust in the back, you know nitrous back, then didn’t even come with tuned pipes. This is still a tuned pipe now sure the stinger itself here is pretty tiny, but you know the pipe is reliable if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. You have a nice high flow uh header here, high revving, 2.5 nitro motor, easy start single speed. You know it’s flat chassis uh. The only negative i i got ta say is the receiver here is exposed, which is pretty ironic, because the nitro slash the receiver is covered in a waterproof container box design, and that is actually basically this exact same chassis. So if you’re looking for something new, i highly recommend you look at uh, traxxas, nitro, slash, that’s, a two wheel drive or if you want the four wheel, drive you’re. Looking at the nitro slayer, which is built on a revo platform, that’s, it guys very important uh little information guide.
Here it comes attached to the fuel tank with the proper break in procedure. This is more or less just comes down to the number and amount of heat cycles you do for your motor, so these nitro motors are not at all like gas motors in a two stroke, regular gas rc. These require multiple heat up and cool down cycles to seat the piston and sleeve on average. I do about um force heat cycles of like 10 minutes, and then i do four more like 25 throttle. Then i do about four more at close to 50 throttle and then you just run it kind of safely normally. But you know: if you want to do more heat cycles, you can sometimes people say well how many fuel tanks, you know how many tanks of fuel should i run through it. I i don’t really consider how many tanks of fuel uh to be a good criteria, because, if you let it run out of fuel it’s going to lean out by itself and at which point you’re going to be running lean towards the end it’s. In your best interest, to mostly just do heat cycles turn the car off. Let it cool to the regular ambient temperature let’s say that you know it is outside, then do another heat cycle that is in your best interest. It really all comes down to how well you break the motor in and that will determine how well the nitro motor will run in the long term.
I’Ve had nitro motors last, for you know, 10 to 12 gallons, with this proper break in method. The traxxas break. In method, you could see right here on the bottom, it’s more or less the same as what i’m outlining, but they’re really talking about the tank. So they care about the fuel tanks. And i guess it makes sense, because you know it’s obviously easier to tell when you’ve run out of fuel but in my opinion, don’t run out of fuel on the brake in cycles, it’s, just not in your best interest but other than that. It’S, basically similar here. There’S a couple more instructions here in the back. You know how to set your high speed needle based on the conditions that you’re running but i’ll be honest with you. The best method you could do is just to test the temperature of the cooling head yeah. You know there’s a lot of controversy about what overheating is. You know what you should not be running at if you’re running around 230 to 250 degrees. At that point, you’re never going to be overheating. I don’t recommend running above like 250, because yeah at that point, your engine will be a little bit more efficient in terms of high rpm, but let me put it this way is that one to two mile per hour difference really worth it. You know uh to me it just isn’t, so i try to run in the most safe range possible i’ve laid out everything that came in the box.
We have the battery for the easy start system, the easy start wand itself. We have the air filter oil we’ll. Do that in a minute we have a brand new glow plug very nice of them to include this. This thing alone is about 10 bucks, so that’s some value for you. We have some tools that it comes with your standard, wheel, wrench. We have a bunch of shock spacers, we have some body, pins body, washers here and a spur gear and some steering components. I think in case you strip some of the uh servo mechanisms there. Of course our fuel bottle the remote control. The first thing. Obviously, you got ta put your batteries into that remote control. Now i wan na check whether this filter is already pre oiled. I could tell it has some pink inside there, which looks exactly like it’s pre oiled, yeah i’m. Pretty sure these come already pre oiled, but the best way to check is to remove the air filter neck here. Let’S just take it out right, remove it and then just you know, touch the air filter. Is it oily yeah? My finger is full of oil, so it’s very nice that they already come pre oiled i’m. Honestly, a little bit surprised it’s been a very long time since i’ve unboxed a brand new traxxas, but this is extremely user error proof i don’t think i’ve ever seen a new nitro other than the traxxas brand that comes with a pre oiled air filter.
Very nice. You also have a bunch of extra filter oil here in the future, for when you choose to uh wash this in a sink with some soap and water, then you can oil, it back up, put it back on man, time to get to the electronics there’s. Just two body pins here remove them from the back of the receiver battery holder. Hopefully we could stick this in there, okay, so it comes standard. With this four double a holder. I already see a major problem, so the wiring harness goes directly to the power switch over here, so there’s no connector from the double a battery holder to the power switch. That means, unless you want to replace this for now i’m, not going to be putting this in we’re just going to be using four double a batteries kind of a a letdown i’ve honestly, never seen a a direct wiring harness like this, where there’s no connector for The receiver battery pack, you could still run these four double a’s. Not then the world you’ll notice that, when your steering becomes very weak, that your battery is already on the low side, you could also install an external uh, volt meter that will tell you the amount of volts. You have a lot of people, do this in the larger fit scale: gas rcs, because there, when your battery pack dies – and you have no fail safe, well, it’s, not very good at all.
For now. We’Ll just put this in put this back together and then we could get ready to break her in let’s. Do the break in the most important part, the first fire first check your electronics yeah. Everything seems to be okay, i’ve already inspected it i’m gon na put some fuel in here for this first tank i am using 20 byron, but i eventually will have to switch to this 30 bones brew. This is the only fuel that i have left now. It is best to do the break in with the fuel that you have, but for our purposes you know 20, 30, more or less. Basically, similar okay fuel is in the system, make sure you have all of your equipment ready to go mainly you’re gon na need a flathead screwdriver. Of course, your you know easy start battery and system and wand i’m, just using my own. For my other cars, no big deal, you could use the included factory, one that it comes with and, of course, on the side, if you ever want to have a nitro motorcycle, just put it over there. You know uh make sure your braking is good. Okay, we’re going to prime the motor now okay motor should be primed and now it’s time to fire it up notice. I have the wheels off of the ground so to say just in your best interest in case something happens and it tries to run away on you let’s fire, it up.
That’S right, it’s, going to start that’s right, baby that’s right tractor seems to start nothing like a first start on a nitro, very nice, even idle Music heat cycle. One is done. I let it cool down, let’s fire it up again, um all right, guys, that’s it. I did a couple heat cycles i’m going to do the rest off camera. If you really want to know how to do a proper break in you got to read the instruction manual guys. Just trust me take my word for it read the manual. I just wanted to show you what it takes, what to be aware of do a couple: pre start checks and yes, i am running the bones: root. 30 percent. Now, at this point, i’m gon na do a couple more heat cycles. Do some runs at about 25, throttle 50 percent throttle and then she’s basically ready to rip along with this awesome, thunder tiger ducati nitro motorcycle thanks. So much for watching guys see you. Music don’t.
