I have driven 7 000 Km, which is kind of ridiculous, but my mustang cobra is almost done being fixed and then i’ll be able to drive that 50 of the time before we get started. I have a quick announcement. If you guys give me the 10 000 followers on instagram, i will do a giveaway and the giveaway will benefit everybody. It won’t just be for honda owners. The first two months i own this car. I rocked the stock tune and i slowly added some modifications, such as the prl high volume intake and the ma performance street exhaust. During those two months of the stock tune, i took the opportunities i had and i compared straight line performance with a bunch of other cars, including a supercharged, Bmw, e36 m3. A stock, c5 corvette and also two stage: 2. E30 tension. Civic sis, all those videos are on my channel and they’re linked down below fast forward to today, and i have the fearable stage 2 tune which is immaculate. Ik vind het geweldig. Hartelijk dank, john vega and i’ve also added the prl intercooler. I also have the mma performance downpipe sitting in my garage and that will go on as soon as i get the cobra home in case i break one of the downpipe bolts.
Let’S do this Music, so the first thing i want to talk about is second gear. Grind a lot of type r owners ever since it came out in 2017, have been complaining that under hard acceleration, sometimes when you’re shifting from first to second, you will experience a grind and it won’t. Let you go into gear, fortunately, om een of andere reden, i have not experienced that issue we’re going to test it out right now, OK: Oke, dat is, the first time i’ve experienced that no that’s the i swear that’s the first time that’s happened. Wow guys leave a like for the grind. You got to be kidding me i’ve, taken this thing to the drag strip. I’Ve done several performance comparisons where i either launched it or i did a first gear roll and never experienced it until today. That very moment all right. Verder gaan, i immediately noticed a huge difference from the si, since this engine is larger in displacement, it has so much more natural power before you even get into the turbo, so how this car can accelerate at zero psi. Uh would probably take the si, maybe two or three pounds of boost that was negative, 2 psi and it moves so nicely and on the k20 c1, the combination of vtec and turbo it’s amazing, Ik zweer. I can feel vtec kick in sometimes but here’s. Something interesting about vtec with this car. Obviously we all know vtec is only on the exhaust cam, with the k20c1 here’s, a quote from john it’s on at light load, then off at high load at low engine speeds, then on again at higher engine speeds and loads.
So vtec is a pretty complicated thing, het is, not as simple as the older cars, where you hit a certain rpm and then it’s on it’s it’s, not like that with this car. Next thing i want to hit is rev. Hang i get asked a lot of questions about rapping. With this type r is rev, hang bad, is it? Is it obnoxious on the type? R short answer is no. The clutch that comes with the type r has a single mass flywheel versus the dual mass flywheel. With the tension si so that helps out with rev hang a little bit and further than that, they must have programmed less of the artificial rev hang into this car. Dus, om eerlijk te zijn, when i uploaded the tune, i barely noticed a difference in the way it shifted the fearable tune. Disabled rev hang, but i barely noticed now. The handling the handling on this car is just insane, but i have a little story. I very quickly learned the limitations of this car’s handling. It was a few weeks after i got the car home. I was at work night shift, so it was 2 am and my friend brandon st randy and i went out to the gas station and on the way back put it in sport mode. I took a pretty hard turn. The car felt great it felt planted. I got to boost the confidence okay, so then i gave him a third gear pull and he liked that.
So i was like you know what i’m gon na take. This next turn up here, super fast nope, bad idea. All four tires were sliding, as we were trying to turn and we went off the road into the grass and gravel. No damage was done: het is, Oke, but basically i was trying to go 45 miles an hour taking a 90 degree turn it just didn’t work out and one more thing. I do plan on tracking this car it’s just that it’s about 100 degrees here up in northern california. So when it starts to cool down, i will take this to sonoma raceway and thunderhill raceway 25 mijlen per uur. We zijn., not gon na go 25. Wow. So i just went 60 in a 25 mile per hour zone. It felt great. This car is amazing. Now i want to hit on sort of a depressing topic. Helaas, dealerships mark up this car more often than not. This car has been on sale in north america. For four years now and dealerships are still marking this car up five ten twenty thousand dollars, i got very lucky with mine. I found this at msrp in indianapolis with no add ons, so i just paid msrp i’ve been getting a lot of questions from people asking me hey. What is your advice on trying to find one of these at msrp right now or how much would you pay? Goed, i would be willing to pay msrp i held out, and i found it at msrp.
Helaas, i think it’ll be pretty much impossible to find one at msrp right now. The economy is out of control. Ik ben.. Sure you guys are all aware, or at least somewhat aware, of what’s going on uh it’s, just not looking good. The prices of everything have skyrocketed, including cars. If used 10 trans civic size are going for about thirty thousand dollars in some areas. There’S no way. Those same geographical locations are going to sell type r’s, msrp it’s, just not gon na happen. If it were up to me, i would just make it illegal to markup vehicles in the united states. The last issue i want to talk about is the whistling sound that the air conditioning makes i didn’t even know. That was a thing on these 10 gens until i experienced it for myself with my type r, a lot of people have both commented on my videos and messaged me on instagram, telling me that this is actually a problem that can be fixed under warranty. Goed, since this community is so great, i actually had one of my subscribers named miguel messaged me on instagram, and he told me that he is a master tech for honda. He explained everything that i need to do, which i can you can easily do at home. So i will make a video on that sometime this week and hopefully it fixes the problem, but if you don’t know what this problem is, this is what the car should sound like under full throttle, and then this is what it sounds like when the actuator of Your ac is stuck partially open under wide open throttle again overall i’m extremely happy with the car.
This is one of the best purchases i’ve ever made in my life, the first being the tencent civic aside that i had because that’s what started my channel that’s, what got to to where it is, and you know what, instead of making a whole entire drawn out. Video about, should you switch from an si to a type r i’m. Just going to tell you right now, you absolutely should Music stop ahead. Oh crap, here are some honorable mentions. I averaged 29.6 miles per gallon. I am at 6864 miles and i have not changed. My oil, yet that is because honda’s come from the factory with us, with a special additive in their oil uh to help with the break in and that helps dissolve the metal shavings. The chemical is called molly denim or something like that. Music i’ve actually tried to get my oil changed twice already and my service guy said uh no hold off until your oil life gets down to like 30 Of 40 percent because of the break in additives that are in the oil Music whoa. Oh, O jee, my back end kicked out that’s, all i have for the type r, but before i end this video i’m. Ten slotte, gon na give you an update on the cobra here. It is it’s time it’s been a long wait. Dames en heren., it’s been about three weeks since you last saw the cobra on the channel and i’m happy to announce that it is all fixed and it’s ready to go and it’s ready to be used and abused.

No fifth gear sign is still in there hell yeah all right, let’s go see what the damage is. I hope my estimate of about eighteen hundred dollars stays true. We’Ll see what’s up my guy news for you. What was that i wish? I did for you what’s the bad news, the so it goes into fifth in reverse now, but one time out of three when you’re in fifth gear, and you throttle it’s coming out of it, wat echt raar is, because the whole thing just got replaced with the Updates, Oke, more than likely it’s something to do with fifth gear schleider he’s all, but that slider came with that kid, so does reverse. Do the same thing where no reverse stays in it’s, just just fifth and it doesn’t do it every time i just we were test driving and it came out once and so i was like what hold on so then he was he kept driving. You know what i mean: keep trying it to see if it was just a fluke that he didn’t go all the way in or whatever, but he said no. I was a two probably one out of three times so about thirty. Thirty three percent time, if you’re in fifth and you go to gas it to pass or anything it pops, it it’s popping itself out here: oh crap um.
Unfortunately i have to take it back out, which i really don’t want to do. But you know it is what it is yeah um yeah. Do you think it might be like the main shift work of the transmission? Nee, he said before. Nee, Nee, it wasn’t before he said he said really the the one thing that could cause that or whatever would be the slider for that gear, dat is je weet wel, slides in and out and he’s like the fork. Nee, the ear. Nee, you know all he’s, like none of that stuff. Synchro you’d have problems getting in here. You’D have problems getting in. It goes in super smooth it just for whatever gas it will pop out. Oke, not every time but enough. That is that i’m, not going to give it back to you so when he opened up the transmission, all the gears looked good reverses, Niet goed, Oke. Oke, so do you here’s a question for you, so what i was doing is i was in fifth gear when this happened on the highway and i went to go downshift to fourth and i went to go to fourth. Dit is dit., is you know, obviously i’m? Not gon na put it past me, but this is, Ik bedoel dat is, my sixth manual car yeah, so i’ve never gone to the wrong gear by accident and with that car that does have a reverse lockout right. Yeah that’s been a thing since, like the 80s yeah exactly so, all of them will have everything.
Has it yet it wouldn’t. Let me go into reverse okay, Oke, and he said that you know what he saw was calling for that. Fifth, reverse problem: Ja. The problem really lies mostly in the reverse. Gear is the actual issue he said, but because it’s stacked up next to fifth, it can affect fifth, Oke, um ja. So he said everything you know he said his gear. Looked good. Reverse was completely broken. You know he’s like but that’s. What i usually see reverse gear was in four pieces and that one the fork and everything was damaged because it broke you know so then you get like you got all new parts in reverse. He said the gear was fine. You put a new slider into fifth uh synchro into fifth, just because you know you’re there, um and, and that was about it so and those are upgraded parts from tremec uh. I think the outramic ones yeah. We usually get them through trans star but they’re. Typically, all the upgrades almost all upgraded. So i was trimming stuff yeah. I mean trimming because i know borg warner made that transmission and then tremec bought the rights to it in 1998., Ja. So more more likely. Any parts you’re getting now or at least upgraded parts are definitely coming trimming um. You know any of your standard parts. You might still be able to get bird warner parts for it, but yeah you don’t want that yeah, exactly not at least not on that.
Not on that portion of the transmission, the rest of it’s, probably fine, because they never had any issues um, you know sure mix goes, but so i’m gon na have to pull that thing back out and figure out what’s going on um. I did talk to him. He said – probably he said literally i’m – probably gon na get in there. It’S gon na. Take me 45 minutes to fix whatever whatever it is, that isn’t right he’s like yeah he’s, like something’s, slightly out of alignment, something simple he’s like it’s going to be super easy. I’Ll be able to get it in and out of here once we get it back on the bench he’s like i’m sure it’s going to go quick and we can get it right back in for you. Dus, okay we’ll get there eventually cool man all right! I’Ll talk to you tomorrow, i’ll talk to you hopefully yeah, hopefully i’ll. Oh man, hey look at that. I just noticed this little detail. It has cobra on the brake, caliper it’s, pretty cool god. I must say, though this car is so clean. Underneath i mean you would not think this is from 1997. i’m actually impressed with that. Dus het is duidelijk., because they weren’t able to completely resolve the issue they’re not going to. Let me drive the car, you know because they need to bring it back in and fix it. Let’S say i take it out and then i completely, i have a driver error and i can blow something up. Um then, at that point, they’re not going to do all the extra work for free, because then i created a new problem where i made it worse or something like that.
