One of the great things about the latest armas is that they do come with this radio, the spectrum slt3, fantastic radio, fantastic rtr, Radio, one of my favorites huge improvement over the xtx2, but unfortunately there is a critical piece that they don’t tell you about. In the armor manual – and that is how to set your steering travel, how to do your steering calibration so i’m going to go through that process. If you download the slt3 manual, they do teach you how to do the steering travel procedure, but um they don’t actually explain that to you in the arm and manual, so we’re gon na go through this real, quick and it’s super super important. It is critical that you go through this process, otherwise your steering travel will not be set correctly. You’Ll, either be over extending your servo and trying to turn the wheels further and then they’re physically able to go or you’re not going to get enough steering travel and not be able to turn the wheels. As far as you need to and you’re not going to be able to make those sharp corners, so let’s go through this procedure it’s a little bit of a secret process. But this is how you do it first off you’re, going to turn the steering wheel, full right and your brake, full brake so trigger should be full brake, steering wheel, full right and then you’re going to turn on the transmitter with the little power button there.
In the back and what you should see now is the status light blinking. That means we are in calibration mode. You can go ahead and let go and you’ll see the light turned off now. You’Re going to see now turn on the vehicle, and you want to make sure these three knobs are all set correctly. You want your steering trim set to whatever you need to do to have the car go straight, so my particular car. I need to turn it a little bit to the right, otherwise the car will kind of drift to the left. The throttle should always be set right there in the middle on that center dot and steering rate or steering dual rate should always be set to maximum. So full right so make sure your dials are set correctly before you go through this process, but we are in calibration mode and all the dials are set correctly, so we’re going to start calibrating and what you want to do is what we’re going to be doing. Is basically setting the travel on the right and left full right and full left to whatever we need it to be to um get to the maximum travel, but not one click more. So the way you adjust, it is there’s these little. This little dial here on the bottom there’s a to go up b to go down a is to increase the travel b is to decrease it and what i recommend doing is starting off let’s, say on the right hand, side decreasing the steering travel until you see The wheels turn and then we’re going to start increasing so i’m, going to just be pressing the a button and watching the wheels turn, and we want to keep pressing the a button until we see it not really turn anymore.
Dus, every time i press the button you’ll see the wheels turn and at some point right getting close. I think right there it’s not turning anymore, so we’ll back it down a few and i’ll show you it again: we’ll press the button and you’ll see it move there. It still moved press, it again still moved press it again, barely moved press it again, really didn’t move at all, so we’re fully set on the right hand, side you let go of the wheel, let it go back to neutral and it’ll save your right hand side. So we get the right side set and then we’re going to do the left hand side so again go full left back it down. You know maybe 10 clicks or so, as you see the wheels turn and then uh we’re gon na start increasing it until we don’t see the wheels turn anymore and again, you do want the vehicle off of the ground. So i’ve got it just sitting kind of on a car stand, so the wheels are not touching the ground, but i’ll show you again. On the left hand, side, we zijn, gon na start, increasing it, and every time you see me push the button. You’Ll see the wheels turn until it stops turning, so it turned it’s still going still going. Another click barely turn there still turning a hair right there. It didn’t turn at all so that last click it didn’t turn at all i’m gon na back it down one.
Just to get back to that maximum travel so again let your steering wheel go back to neutral. Dat zal., save your left hand, side now and we’ve got our steering fully calibrated. Now you want to turn off the radio, and now the car uh has fully saved all its setting to the radio. So that is the steering calibration process. We’Ll go ahead and turn it back on and you’ll see. Nwo, when we go full right, that’s pretty much full travel right, full left will give you full travel left, but not a click more. So the problem is, if you set it too high it’s going to try to turn farther than the steering can actually go. The steering server is going to keep trying to turn the wheels, but it won’t actually be able to go, and so it’s just putting extra extra strain on these servers and they will eventually break. Eigenlijk. These servers are a little bit weak now for bonus points. If you want to go through this process, you know not a bad idea, and that is throttle calibration, so i’ll go through this process. You don’t need to do any special calibration mode on the radio. You just turn it on normally have your car turned on and then what we’re going to do is turn off the car and throttle calibration. What we’re going to be doing is setting neutral, full throttle and full prey positions on the car. Dus weer, the radio has no idea what car you’re in the receiver has no idea what car you’re in the esc could be a completely different brand and behave a little bit differently.
So what we’re doing is calibrating the esc to get full throttle range on your radio and to do that. You’Ve got the car off you’re going to hold down this little button here and, as you hold it down, you turn the car on and you hear the esc start blinking and beeping. That means we are in calibration mode and with the radio on with that throttle. Trim set to middle we’re gon na hit the button one time that’s set neutral now we’re gon na pull full throttle on the radio press. It again that’s that full throttle. Let go now. We’Re gon na go full brake and hit that button a third time and now we’ve saved full break to the esc. So the ec now has knows where neutral is, it knows where full throttle is, and now it knows where full brake is and if you hold down your car and hit full throttle, you’re getting full throttle and again on the brake side, you’re getting full brakes. So that’s esd calibration they generally are set reasonably close out of the factory, but the steering calibration is usually wrong, so i definitely recommend you do the steering calibration, if not the throttle calibration that will get you just perfect. Full travel on both the steering on the throttle and not over stress your servo, a very common problem on a lot of these armas, as well as most other manufacturers and will get you just a little bit longer life out of your servo so anyways.
