Unboxing The New Tamiya Ford Escort Mk.2 Rally RC Car MF-01X Chassis. Kit 58687 (M-08 Chassis Swap!)

Goed, i finally got my hands on the brand new kit from tamiya the escort rally now this is kit 58687 and it’s on chassis mf01x bit controversial, but we’ll come on to that in a little while. So what we’re going to do today is we’re going to open it up. Take a look at what you get in the box also check out this body that’s painted by tamiya, because apparently this one has tinted windows, as well as a painted body that’s something new from tamiya, because normally it’s only been like one color, so they’ve, never tinted. Any windows, as far as i know, on any other uh pre made body for you also, i think it’s partly cut out. I don’t think it’s completely cut out, but i think they’ve done the arches, so we’ll check out on that as well. Right, let’s open it up and take a look, so you get a talk tuned motor let’s have a look. Uiteraard, oh they get the standard. We’Ve got the old, uh esc. Uiteraard, tamira brought out a new one. These are the oh forget what they’re called now what’s this tble 02s being replaced now with the newer one. I’Ll put a picture up here for the one that’s going to be replacing it so the body these are all the mounts that go inside for the lights, because you can fit a light kit in this one. Now the interesting bit is the body.

I get the feeling that when i take this out of this box, it’s not going back in again so let’s take a look and sure enough. It is. It has been treated twice, it’s been painted in the white and then they’ve gone back and actually done the windows for you and they’ve masked out all the lights as well and the little i guess, that’s a bumper or some sort of attachment at the front. And then they’ve left the rear as well, so yeah they’ve actually blown in the windows and they did a really good job actually yeah. It did a very good job. You can see there where they blew it in so yeah they’ve cut the arches for you, so that’s fantastic. All you’ve got to do is the line across the bottom and then round the back, so super easy, shouldn’t be too difficult at all, and they’ve also done the holes for the body mounts as well. Now that might be a bit of an issue for me because i’m going to put a different chassis on this. So it may be the case that i cannot use these pre made bodies because they’ve cut the holes i may have to get the upcoming release of the standard body that hasn’t been painted. I actually have the replacement chassis here. Let’S have a look so if you haven’t seen my build video on the chassis i’m going to replace with this one, this was the mo8 concept that i built.

I’Ll put a link up here. Go check that out now. This is the actual chassis that i want to run this body on, but going by let’s see, i wonder if it fits, does it line up? Does it line up that’s the question where’s the front where’s the front it does so there’s a first for you. Now the bumper i have to take the bumper off, but the good thing is that body fits straight onto those standard mounts. I have to adjust the bumper, but i think should we trick sorry we’re going a bit off piste, but let’s have a look because that’s quite important. So let me just take the bumper off and then hopefully that’s a turnkey solution for you. If you’re thinking about getting the moa chassis now, if you haven’t seen the build video before the reason i’m changing to this chassis is this is a rear. Wiel, drive chassis, whereas the one that comes in the kit is four wheel drive and also. This is more of a high end kit versus the kind of entry level, one that you get with the escort right there we go so i’ve taken the taking it off so let’s have a look: Laten we, try not to lose the aerial. Obviously i have to make an aerial hole, but i think we are laughing that is going to go. Why won’t it go down. Oh because i’ve got the body pins in gave you more on right.

Let’S have a look come on get in there get in there. That’S right trying to do this on camera. There we go, so it is a perfect turn. Key solution. You’Ll be able to put this body on no problems at all, which is fantastic. Ook, i have the wheels to go on and the tires these will come off and then the blue wheels will go on. So we have got ourselves apart from trimming up the bumper a little bit. We’Ve got ourselves a fantastic replacement chassis with no work needed. Oh anyway, i digress i’m. Just going to put this back and then we’ll carry on digging into this box. Right cleared up a little bit so that’s, fantastic that all the pre done holes and wheel arches will all line up bang on so that’s great. So whether i’ll put this on that chassis and then whether i’ll buy a another escort body, that’s not been painted, paint that up and put it on this chassis. I don’t know now, as some of you have got good memories. You will know that i built one of these before and i actually fitted it to a porsche 959. Ja, i know that i haven’t finished it, but it fits on that one so i’m, not sure whether i’m actually going to build this one on the channel. I might do it off and then some comparisons or i might build it and um you guys – can watch it.

I haven’t decided yet comment below. If you want to see me build this one on the show, otherwise i’ll build it off camera. So what else we got? We got the tyres which is great because my moh chassis comes with no tyres and then we have, what have we got? We’Ve got another bag. This is all packed in. This is quite a small it’s, a lot of stuff in this kit. We’Ve got the tiny little blue wheels, which is great really like those they’re fantastic. Then we’ve got some red uprights and the rear uprights the lights. I guess the ones that go on the front. That’S the the glassy bit, then we’ve got a couple of trees. What have we got in these trees from bumpery stuff? I love the flexibility much better for taking a bit more of abuse. Um we’ve got friction shocks as far as i can see there. They go in for sure friction shocks, terrible especially on a rally guy it’ll bounce around like a trooper. What else have we got so then? You have two options with this kit. Really you can spend the money and get the moh chassis and upgrade to that or you can spend the money on this kit and upgrade the suspension and bits and pieces. So uh i’ll put up some photographs that jenny has sent over to me of all the upgrades that she’s got because she’s going the other way to me, Ik ben, going the moh chassis she’s, actually going to take this chassis and upgrade everything which i think is brilliant To show you guys the two options, because there’s no right and wrong, you might want to just do this chassis or you might want to swap it completely both quite expensive.

So i’ll put up some shots here of the upgrade parts that she’s doing for the uh mf 01x chassis. Where else have we got we’ve got little. Diff covers we’ve got the motor mount in a different plastic, and i like that, you’ve got different plastics, doing different things, you’ve got more hard and then you’ve got more flexible aspects, so hopefully this will actually be quite a strong kit, i’ve only driven my other version Of this kit once but it’s only been around the grass, so i haven’t had any issues with it from that point of view, it’s quite a simple, easy kit to put together so that’s like one side of the chassis and that’s the other. Then we have this divider and then, after that we have one more bag, which is this chassis. You can adjust the wheel base on it, there’s three wheel bases for this chassis and that’s. What these plates these uh parts that go inside you actually can extend it by putting in different size sections um as um. I can’t remember if this is the smallest one or the middle uh version i can’t remember, then we have all our bags. We have our talk tune motor then. Where else did we get? What else do we get? Let’S have a look server, saver, Um, Ik ben, not sure what that is just couple screws we get the gears, we’ve got uh some springs and uh no bearings in this one.

You’Ve just got the plastic bearings. You do get opinion, though uh talk tune motor. You do get metal cups and metal dog bones, so that’s pretty good uh. Then we get some metal gears. We’Ve actually got some metal gears in here, dus dat is, pretty cool um. No bearings so you’ve got metal gears front and rear, and then you get a metal. The middle drive shaft um. When i did the 959, i had to buy the shorter version of this, so you get a stock manual for the mf01x there’s. Nothing special about this kit, this manual, this manual, you get on all of them. I’Ve, actually got one of those from a different kit from the mfo one, but they give you an insert sheet that you get, which actually explains how to put the decals on. For this exact kit, as well as all the lights, so the body is pretty cool, it’s got all the lighting and you can put some internal led internal leds and you also get the big rally lights on the front, which i think is excellent. As for the decals, well, the decals they don’t look too challenging there’s a lot of lines which are quite boring to cut out. But the main challenge, Geloof ik, is going to be this blue line. That goes up the side but i’m, pretty sure a lot of you will want to put other uh liveries on this rally. Car so uh definitely go check out.

They’Ve got lots of different options on decals, so if you want to go a different route than the box art, they do loads of decals over there. So go check them out.
