So let’s jump into all the details. Tthe 5160 basically takes everything you probably already know and love from Bilstein shocks and just updates it a little bit more and adds a bit more off road capability. The bill Staton fifty one sixty rear shock, basically takes all the good parts of the 5100 rear shock and just updates it and upgrades it a little bit for a better offer performance. The first thing, you’re gon na notice, is that this is a remote reservoir system. With that reservoir kind of piggybacked onto the main shock body, and that allows for more oil capacity and better performance offroad in the sense that now, when you really get those shocks working and you need to dissipate heat, nie ma, more fluid to move and it’s gon na Perform nicer and ride smoother speaking of riding smooth off road. We have spent a lot of time with these in the dirt, hitting different trails and different terrain, so make sure you hit subscribe, so you don’t miss out on any of the videos where we’re actually taking this thing out and really beating on it. A few other quick details that make the Bilstein a little bit better and different from a regular factory shock, as it has unique, digressive valving on the inside to allow for that better performance and better traction in the dirt. Also they’re designed to be more durable overall than just a standard factory shock and can handle an additional two inches of lift.
So if you do add a add, a leaf kit or a rear block, you have a bit of room to stretch without compromising the performance of the shock. Nwo, with all the specs out of the way, let’s talk about how they actually drive on the truck we’ve done about seven to eight hundred miles now of running highway national park, forest roads, dirt trails rocks and everything you can think of we’ve pretty much hit with These shocks on the truck and they feel excellent as you’d, expect that digressive valving and having that external reservoir on there helps a lot, especially when you’re on really rough terrain, and it gets bouncing and that’s a big area where, on f, 150s from factory these shocks Tend to show their weakness, you get the bed kind of bouncing the truck alternates. It starts to lose traction, it feels kind of washy and almost disconnected from the rest of the vehicle. The bill Steen’s help firm that up a bit, but not in the sense where it’s so firm that it feels like you’re gon na break your back driving this thing off road, to jest, Bardzo, very good performance and definitely a nice upgrade over a factory shock. Nwo, obviously, the off road performance is excellent, but you spend a majority of time driving your truck on the street. These perform great on the street you’re, not compromising any of the way that the truck performs it’s gon na handle just the same as it did previously, but you get that additional performance and a little bit of stiffness that just helps it track a little bit nicer.
So we’ve been really pleased with how these would perform spending time and highways driving around town all the standard day to day stuff that you expect they’re gon na handle that no problem, as an added bonus to these shocks are very simple. To install the remote reservoir. Can piggyback onto the main shock body and then the whole unit just simply replaces your factory shock, so it’s gon na use the same mounts that makes it very easy. A quick, fast upgrade that’ll get you good performance overall we’ve been very pleased with the Bilstein. 51.
