DJI Ronin S – How to Use External RC Remote Control
Nwo, whilst the Ronin s app does have an onscreen, joystick and you’re able to use it to control the gimbal itself, it only works up to 10 Lub 15 meters because it is bluetooth and once you get beyond that range, the signal drops and you lose control. If you did want the ability to control it on a further distance, the way to do it is using a standard, RC receiver and a remote controller, because DJI have built in this functionality, as well as the ability to use the external remote controller that they’ll have Available coming soon now, you may or may not have noticed that on one side of the focus wheel, there is an esper stroke and the switch. Więc, to use this, you will need to place it into the S bus setting and then on the other side of the focus wheel and for me that’s on the bottom, because I’m left handed and I’ve got it on the left right hand, side. You then have a little plug and that plug is for pins. You will only need to use three of them, connect it to your s, bus receiver and then use it on your remote controller to control the gimbal. Now the wiring, for this is not the same as a standard RC connector. Normally you have ground five volt in the middle and then signal for your S, bus on a normal receiver wiring, Jednak, because this is DJI scam, bus connector, it is slightly different.
Pin 1 is 5 volt pin 2 is ground and pin 3 is still signal and I’m going to stop right there, because I’ve said something wrong: it is actually pin 4. That is signal. So number 1 is voltage. Plus number 2 is ground and pin 4 is signal when I record that there somehow I managed to change it between getting from my workshop back to the computer. Please note, if you hear me say: pin 3, I actually mean pin fall to do this. Looking at the front of the focus wheel, pin 1 is the closest pin to the front, which is the 5 volt connector the next one back is then ground and then the third one is the signal wire now for purposes of this I’ve simply used a temporary Cable that allows me to demonstrate it for you guys now it uses channels one to fall on your radio and you will need to set them, as you would normally set it on any standard setup, and once you’ve done it, you then have control over the pan Motor you have control over the pitch up and down, as well as the roll motor on the back and what it means is over great distances. You will be able to control your gimbal and do some actually quite interesting moves if you didn’t want to use the onboard features with the DJI Ronin app. Now there is one or two little downsides to this, and the first is: you cannot control the camera itself and what I’m about to say is specific to F R sky, because it does work with Futaba radios.
Please check out my other video, which I’m going to release, which will talk about this specifically. But the information I’m saying here is correct at the time of posting for F R sky radios I’m, using this with the gh 5, which does have focus and startstop control over the onboard functions with the Ronin S. Jednak, they haven’t appeared to have programmed a channel that allows you to trigger that I’ve tested it on all of the aspects, channels that I have available and none of them trigger the focus or the startstop record, or the all the shutter on the camera itself. Niestety, so if you were doing this manual, camera control would have to be done next to the unit where you’d have to set it and then move a distance. Now what it does mean by doing this is you can use it up to any range? You really want to on the capability of your receiver. Through the to this. I have actually seen someone post a video of them using it with DJI Lightbridge to and what they then done is plug the HDMI port into the side of the camera, the d bus s, bus into the bottom of the roll in s and that’s. Given them wireless control and video over a much greater range, so it is something else you could do if you were looking for that remote control. So if you’ve mounted the Ronin S on an on it of a vehicle or something like that and you didn’t want to use the Bluetooth, then this gives you another option that is it for this video.
I hope the information has been useful. Please do subscribe to the channel if you’d like to support the channel. There are some links in the description please to use them.

There seems to be some confusions around the cable connection.
If you do not want to make your own you can use the DJI Ronin UART to Dbus cable below or follow the pinout.
Once the video is uploaded I was not able to change and did not spot it was wrong until later, but I was able to add the still. The image I added is correct and clearly states the pinout.
The pins in order from the front back of the focus wheel are
Pin 1 V+ 5v
Pin 2 is Gorund
Pin 3 is Not connected
Pin 4 is signal/Sbus
You can also use the DJI Ronin M UART to Dbus cable https://m.dji.com/product/ronin-2-uart-d-bus-cable
Cześć ! I can connect the DJI Inspire 2 controller in ronin S ???
Indonesia name hairi
Is there a way to do without the focus wheel?
I dont like becuase you cant connect a monitor to the remote or you phone to view live video, the focus wont be a issue if you set it up in a good spot for recording live events as a b roll camera.
can't get this to work :s what receiver did you use? – It does work now! i am using a taranis and frsky rx4r receiver. it is possible to monitor from the ronin app (User Profile -> Control -> Kanały ) if there is an input from the radio. Kanały 1-3 are working, channel 4-6 do not get any signal for some reason… Speed, deadband, smoothing as well as hard stops chan also be defined here User Profile -> Control -> Motion
would it be possible with a dji Mavic pro remote ??
Cześć, thanks for the great video, I managed to get the S-Bus working on channel 1,2,3 with a Futaba 8J/R20008SB combination. However start/stop of photo or video recording on channel 4 is not working. Did anyone ever managed get this to work ? Please tell me how ?
I managed to make Ronin-SC work with my FrSky Taranis Q X7S!!!
To do this you have to adjust weight & offset in the channel mixer (page 6). For all channels it should be set to 4 – it's zero level for Ronin. You can check it in the mobile app if you bind a three-position switch to the roll axis and keep in in the middle position. Also you can notice that touching the switch doesn't move the axis. It happens because weight is too high – my gimbal starts moving at weight 82 (but setting this for joysicks isn't necessary). Also there's a software bug obviously – touching ch7 on a transmitter can affects multiple channels what you can see in the bluetooth app. Fortunately I found a safe weight 78. Set it to ch5-7 and you will be able to triggering photo with autofocus, change user modes and rotate your gimbal!
The only limitation is that you can switch between 1&2 user modes only. Mode 3 can't be set probably due to a software bug. I won't continue this investigation, this limitation is acceptable for me and I have no more time to discover it. 🙂
I would like to know what kind of RC controller and receiver I could purchase to make this possible.
io ho una rx Spektrum con uscita in sbus ma non riesco a farla funzionare con il Ronin s.
I have a Spektrum rx with sbus output but I can't get it to work with the Ronin s
How can I setup the controller for Ronin s?
Can you fix the audio of the video so we understand the part of the cables? Why don’t you just did that in the first place?
Can you configure a channel to record to the camera?
Cześć, thanks for your demo. Can you explain how to configure your taranis channel please ?
Can you make a how to video with links to the RC transmitters/recievers and setting everything up? I'm not too familiar with RC and S-BUS connections/ hardware
I have managed to purchase a single joystick controller. I will post a review and purchasing details on here as soon as I get it. Search for “Ronin S wireless controller”
Hey did you ever figure out the channel to get focus control?
We've seen your video and we're not in standby mode. What should we do?
Cześć, great video and made me go and buy the Ronin S that I'd been putting off due to no remote control available from stock. I understand that you use Futaba TX/RX but all I require is pan and tilt control so would it be possible to use something a bit cheaper like the Walkera Devo 7 and Walkera RX-SBUS. I'd also like to use the pan and tilt on just the right hand joystick, do you think this will be possible? Thanks for any advice.
Is it possible to use one joyistick for the PAN and TILT and another joystick for the ROLL? As well as a simpler RC?
Not an RC. expert but if I’ve read this correctly, I can get a standard futaba tx and Rx and a special cable, I can remotely control the ronin-s. I’m confused on which rc is compatible and how to get a suitable cable. I also have a spectrum DX6i – could this be used? Great video though.
Witam. You mention having seen someone using Lightbridge 2 with the Ronin S. I've searched and can't find a video or info on this. Any chance you could point me in the right direction? Wielkie dzięki.
I can config any channel in the radio?
if I now add the new DJI Focus Lite motor controlled by Sbus will this usable via the RH RC controller on a channel higher then 1-4 Proszę, this could be allocated to the zoom ring instead of focus?
Cześć,
I just bought a Futaba 6 channel tx (TL6 Sport) with a R3106GF rx. How do I connect it? Where can I get the wires and which ones? I was looking for single pin wires on Ebay but could find only 2, 3… pin. Also on the rx side there are 21 pins for different channels and B. I conect to B? No info in the manual I got in the box. I use gimbals a lot but never did any RC stuff and needed a remote for S when I put it on the car mount.
Any luck with controlling the focus motor remotely?
UK based.
Dziękuję!
Witam, what is the connector that goes in the ronin s? Can you please specify, Proszę
Where did you get the cable connector to go from s-bus to the dji cable connection?
i have connected the r7008sb to the ronin-s wirh a gh5 on top… Channel 1-3 works fine with the sticks and i managed to set the mode 1,2,3 to a switch on the futaba. on which channel do you control the shutter? and are there additional channels?
Have you tried setting the DJI Ronin-S to do a 360 Infinity roll and controller with the Roll axis? Can this be done? All I have seen is a 15-30 degree roll.
Walkera Devo F7 this remote control can work on ronin s
