The double e e101 land rover defender, huge huh it’s a 1 8 Skali, but really more like 1 7 Skali, with how big it is, and i have a unboxing running video over here. It was quite fascinating because it’s about 350 Dolców, which is a lot less than comparable vehicles, but it comes with it’s bigger, obviously, but it comes with a hard body and hard bodies like this. We know cost about 150 do 200 Dolców, for so, for them to have a 351 vehicle is was pretty impressive. So here it is incredibly detailed body, A 9 z 10 and i’ve seen some rc four wheel drive vehicles of late. Our driver biff fit in there good, but here the the biggest problem when i ran it was it didn’t have crawler reverse and it also didn’t have drag break it. Just it just kind of um. When, when you, when you let go, it would just freewheel when you brake, it would just stop and that’s because of this esc built in esc and receiver in one so it’s just very limited.
You know i i know these are all transistors or resistors uh that control your your modulation, so got rid of this i put in a hobbywing 1080. I also chucked their cheap uh, noisy sounding motor. I put in a what they call that a homes hobbies trail master just a 20 Silnika, so it is super powerful now, bardzo szybko, Okk. So what we’re going to do is i’m going to turn it on and show you the modulation. Również, it was kind of herky jerky right and now it actually has modulation. This thing can can climb. Another mod i did was the the the shocks were not filled with oil. One had a little bit, the three didn’t really have any. So i put in 50 weight oil all around and i took out all the preload so uh, let it sit better used. It was like this before and it was like it was no damping at all. So so now it sits pretty good and um here’s. Our steering a lot of opening doors by the way, one two three four five six, but here is the modulation. So i have a fly sky here and go for it and realize there’s a bump here. So bumps are very hard to modulate on, because you have to overcome that with torque right there. I have to overcome it and there you go so there you go go forward so it’s. Now a smooth operator very easy to control.
Steering radius is still not awesome. So and it’s still two speed, first gear and second gear, więc jestem, just on first here, but let me show you the power on. Oh, i also lower the gearing it had this huge gear. Like a 17 tooth, i put in a 14 tooth, so that’s part of the the modulation scenario, so pretty smooth drivetrain huh there is play in the drivetrain. This is normal, but on this vehicle it’s a little more than my traxxas or my actual so just to let you know there’s a little bit of delay when you, when you throw a steering, is still not good. I haven’t really solved that problem, yet i just gave it a little bit of a toe out, but it’s super fun, it’s crazy, because um so realistic on the trail couple things to note the the the tires the the wheels are compatible, but the rim they use Is pretty thick so when you use a normal rim like a and they’re fairly thin there’s, not enough threading, so you need a washer of some sort uh. The other thing is the pin on the hex keeps falling out because it’s not locked locked up by a grub screw. The only other problem that i would like to mention is the the cv joints. The the pin in the cvd is a little bit soft. You know when i was full powering it with this modded motor and turning it.
It bent the pin so uh that’s a little weakness. The drive shafts are now totally metal. There you go so these are pretty strong. I heard there was weaknesses before plastics quality on the actual engine engine firewall housing it’s, not the best. So you have to be careful not to over tighten and use loctite when when appropriate, but there you go i’m going to show you some running video and on the next series. We’Ll really take it on the trail. Maybe i’ll i’ll modify the tires. The good news is, these are not amazing, Opony, but they perform pretty good because they’re, big and the vehicle is heavy enough 12 pounds that it’s able to articulate these tires. So not perfect, but you know you guys are probably wondering. Can i work with it? Kind of you know you know can, can i make something of it make it rad, and this is really the first step just putting your own radio and your esc and i’d like to say that hey it’s definitely definitely possible. So we’ll keep modding this, but the next one will have some cool running video thanks a ton. So now let us show you the vehicle with the modifications. Let’S turn it on very convenient hood here flip it open press the switch in this case it’s. Now the hubby wing 1080 switch we’re using a fly sky, gt5 there’s, the steering and there’s the modulation much smoother, and it has sufficient drag brake gear.
High gear switchable by very handy button on the fly sky, gt5. So much improved there in terms of control and usability of the three channels. Okk, the body is not screwed on it’s hold on held by eight screws they’re, not on so we’re able to just lift the body, show you the internals and the work that we did so there’s the steering once again and the smooth modulation shift gears with that. Little servo second gear right there again so very convenient as you can see, it’s a hub homes, hobbies trail master. Sport 21 turn right on the back there and then right in front is the battery and the hobbywing 1080 Esc. So here we go overview of the vehicle again, just the stunning body looks like it’s worth 150, 200 being so big and detailed, has exterior interior and six opening doors lights as well. We haven’t connected the lights yet to the hobbywing 1080. It is a different connector and we’ll leave you with just a little bit of running video here, it’s a smooth operator. Wiesz, as you get bigger heavier crawlers. They look usually look more realistic on the trails they articulate so still stock tires. We just put on some nice shock oil on this 50 weight. All around we’re gon na try our best tires here. Pretty soon. We just need to fit them on the 12 millimeter hexes. We just need a little spacer, so there you go, there might be a hidden gem in here thanks a ton.
