Why, Tak, okay screen it’s a little snug? The seats are a little bit on the narrow side, but pretty deep and comfortable the leather on them is quite nice. I have lots of power adjustments. I also have three stages of heating and cooling, as well as a heated steering wheel in terms of advanced safety.
We have lots of stuff here. We have collision mitigation, lane detection with adaptive cruise control, blind spot warnings, rear cross traffic alerts, pretty much all the greatest hits, but when you compare it to other new vehicles, specifically that new acura tlx it really just doesn’t, look as modern lexus really needs to improve Their game when it comes to interiors they were really good for the longest time, but now everybody else is surpassing them. I mean you still have really nice leather on the steering wheel. They have nicely placed paddle shifters, i like those, but then you look at this cheap, looking plastic that has a metallic coating to it and it’s like not so great these dials. They are interesting and unique and they are kind of like a metallic i’m, not sure what kind that is, but you know not, that exciting it’s, just not that exciting of an interior. One thing that is a huge improvement here is this new infotainment system. They finally put a touch screen up here, Więc, even though we do have this awful awful track pad, we don’t have to use it. Zamiast, i can just hit buttons up here to do what i want now: to jest, not the most intuitive system, because of course, this is all designed for the track pad, ale jest to, Tak myślę, pretty decent, although like there’s no way for me to go home again Up here i have to click home down there, and then i can get my app screen and then i can pick other things: Okk, Dobrze, Niech, do a destination, let’s search for the nearest let’s search for cafe, laudro that’s, another good, local, coffee, więc nie ma, Jeden 3.
8 Miles away and we can click, go and that’s that now let’s go ahead and try that again and this time we will do it the more modern way with a voice prompt before you start navigate to cafe lotro well, Czyli, całkiem nieźle. It is cloud connected. So we have the latest data to navigate to this point of interest. This is when they just start talking a lot. Och, spójrz na to. It actually shuts up when i start talking, i like that, but it still talks too much still too verbose. Okay and now there’s a third way we can navigate, which is with the navigation on a mobile device, w moim przypadku, an apple iphone plug that in carplay, and now we can search with the menu up here, navigate to cafe. Laudro one option i found is cafe ladro on urban plaza in kirkland. Another nice thing about actually that i’m just noticing here with carplay, is that it uses the full width of the extra wide screen. One thing that’s, not so lovely on this system, Jednak, is the rear view, camera it’s, still analog and it’s horrible. It really is horrible that needs to get updated. Even the new mazda 3 that i just drove has a better camera than that and i’m sorry lexus. If mazda’s catching up to you, you need to start running because that’s, not okay, we have three drive modes. We have eco sport and normal plus a bonus, drive mode of snow let’s head out and see how well it handles because handling is what they focused on on this new 2021 Modelu.
Czyli, not something you can just see on the outside it’s something we’re going to have to go experience. The is we’re driving is the base trim, so it’s lacking a lot of the features you can find on higher end models like adaptive, Zawieszenie, a rear, limited slip, differential and all wheel drive, but priced in the mid 40s it’s, probably going to be the most popular Trim, even if not here in the northwest, definitely in places like los angeles and arizona we’ll get to handling impressions soon enough first let’s see just how quick this setup is with some zero to sixty runs. So this road is not the road that i always use for zero to sixties. I i’ve done a bunch of them here, though um the problem with this road is there’s a turn at the end of it, and if the car is fast it’s, not a problem. I get up to 0 60 and it’s good i’m at 60 before the road turns. Jednak, on slower cars, it can be a problem and i’m, not really sure where this is 300 falls, but i think we’ll find out soon enough. I have my timer on. I have this in drive mode i’m gon na keep it in sport and i’m gon na keep traction control on and we’ll see how this does three two: oh let’s preload and see how, if that gives us a good time, three two one and oh it cut It doesn’t like preloading it did that on purpose.
Okk, so we can’t preload on this one. Uh let’s just try a regular zero to 60 foot down three two one: Przejdź: Okk, it’s a little slow to start a little wheel, spin, 40, 50, 60 and boom 7.52 seconds that’s, not very good. I think we can do better. Okk, i’m gon na try that again this time, Jednak, i’m going to turn traction control off and i’m gon na manually shift. Three two one go and oh lots of wheel, spin, still wheel, spin lots of wheel spin, Nic! Oh! That did not too much wheel! Spin i’m going to roll my own with traction control on this time, i’m in sport mode and three two one go slow to start shift it’s hard to tell when to shift and shift and i’m at a road it’s a little hard to know when to shift. Because the car doesn’t make a lot of noise, it doesn’t make a big fuss, some cars. You can feel like not just here but feel when you need to shift that’s, not the case here. You know what i’m going to use all the room. I think i’m, going to back all the way up to this dead end sign all the way, all the way, all the way, all the way, every inch of it to my parking radar’s throw fit okay, this time i’m, just going to keep it in drive i’m Going to keep it in sport, i’m going to have traction, control turn on and three two one go.
Can we do it? Och, to jest, a little slow because it’s a little slippery a little muddy back there. 40 50 60.. Oh, had the lift at the last second. 8.88 seconds we’re gon na have to find a longer straighter piece of road. This just can’t do it, but because this is a twisty road, we can talk about the suspension higher end. Models of this vehicle do have adaptive suspension. This one is just standard uh setup, but it does have of course, multi links in the rear and they are very nicely sprung for oh nice, nice compression there. It really feels great, and i can feel what the nose is doing very nicely overall it’s, a great driving experience. Lexus has just made some massive improvements in the overall handling of this vehicle, which is really kind of surprising, considering. This is more of a mid cycle. Refresh than a clean sheet design like the new acura tlx is all new this year, and it shows that is a very cool chassis, to jest, very tight and it’s. Just asking for more horsepower. This one they’ve done a good job with what they have, but the age of these bones is showing Applause. The stock setup of these dampers is actually rather nice. It seems to absorb the bumps as i hit them, ale to jest, not too wallowy or rolly in the corners overall it’s. Quite good actually do you need adaptive dampers yeah if you have more horsepower and a rear, limited slip and you’re really gon na push the car yeah yeah you do, but for what this car is intended for now.
This is this is really nice. The seating position, the steering position, just everything – falls to hand nicely yeah. Oczywiście, this is out of date, but you know what it works, ale oczywiście, if you’re spending mid 40s, do you really just want to buy something that works or do you want to buy something? You know closer to remarkable? Okk, finally got a nice dry flat location that’ll, give us all the time we need to get up to 60, because this may need some extra time now. The settings we’re going to use is just sport and that’s. It everything else default: Okk, Trzy, two one and go a little slow to start kicks in 30, 40, 50 I 60. jesteśmy. Looking at 7.11 Sekund, Tak, niech. Try that again that can’t be right. 7.1. This thing’s got ta be closer to six and a half see. I don’t know what i can do different, maybe i’ll turn off traction control, this time and uh, maybe i’ll even row. My own we’ll just see how that works. Okk, complete stop now let’s see paddle shifters. This is up three two one and go 20 and shift 40 and shift and 60 6.85 seconds okay, so i was able to get faster than seven seconds, but it required me rowing my own gears and i had traction off. I don’t know if that really did anything because it’s perfectly dry cement. We had plenty of grip. So is this fast? Clearly, it is not but Music yeah.
I mean the tlx costs about the same amount of money and it’s a second faster on 0 do 60. Czyli, actually quite a bit faster pondering this. I headed towards the summit to find some snow for one final test along the way i had a chance to try out some of the more advanced safety features. A lot of cars today have adaptive cruise controls where you pace the vehicle in front of you. Even more have lane detection, Więc, on top of the pacing, the vehicle it’ll notify you. If you go over the lanes, the next layer is lane tracing or lane centering that’s, where it basically auto steers for you and as we’re going through this corner, you’ll notice. I can take my hands off the wheel and it’s doing just fine it’ll even straighten out and keep me on the straight and narrow. Now the whole point of that isn’t, Oczywiście, to make this an autonomous system it’s not, but it is good for long distance driving where you don’t want to be making micro adjustments for 800 Km. I want to try something somewhat of a litmus test. Now we do a lot of all wheel, drive cars on snow and ice. Dobrze, what about a rear wheel, drive car? What does it do? Is it like? Oh, Nie, i can’t get out or is it capable of getting unstuck as well? Dobrze, we don’t have a lot of snow yet in pacific northwest, but we do have a little bit of snow, so i’m going to go ahead and just see how it does right.
Okk, we are fully on snow and ice and i’m gon na put it in normal drive mode and we’ll see what happens and go traction control kicking in moving it around and out we go see you don’t always need all wheel drive to get out of sticky Situations, although all wheel drive, obviously gives you far more capability. Let’S see what is different when we put it into snow mode there and drive to me. It feels about the same, but what’s actually happening is it’s, starting with less power, because it’s trying to eliminate slip. Więc, jak widać, just because there’s a little snow on the ground, doesn’t mean you need to put away your rear wheel, drive sedan. Tthe 2021 lexus jest 300, has a number of important improvements over the previous model. The handling is noticeably better and that bodes well for lexus, though it is hard to tell just how much outside of a race track, and then there is this base. Engine it’s, smooth and economical, but still kind of fun. Sure it’s, not gon na win any drag. Races, but if you’re a lexus buyer, do you care about zero to sixty times that’s, just something you’re gon na have to ask yourself if you don’t. This is a very nice car to drive it’s comfortable. It has all the features you need. The touch screen is an improvement, although i i don’t like that, i have to do some things down here and some things up here that just doesn’t make a lot of sense, but overall yeah nice job, lexus you’ve improved the is for driving sports tv, i’m ryan.
