1520. 4, pole motor that we have here to install use, speedrun and then bash on 8s lego power creations has released their 1520 motor, which is kind of special because of its particular size, which retains the same diameter as a 6s motor to demonstrate this we’re going to Outfit, this 8s system into our first gen arma infraction 6s blx to make it the ultimate street basher. Now, of course, you can’t use an 8s motor without an appropriate 8s esc and that’s why the 1520 comes as a combo, including the mamba monster. X8S esc. Both the motor and esc can be used from 3s to 8s lipo power and they’re censored, which provides a whole lot smoother power delivery and control over the sensorless systems. You’Ll find in most ready to run vehicles. So not only is this system 8s it’s also censored and it’s a near drop in fit for most 6s vehicles now to make sure you don’t need any other parts or adapters. The 1520 motor has a 5 millimeter output shaft. So you can use all your same. Pinion gears and it features the same bolt pattern on the front with m3 and m4 holes, so you can mount it right up into most vehicles. Now, like we’ve mentioned, the can diameter is the same as 6s motors at 41.6 millimeters, but the can is longer at 88.8 millimeters, as you can see here, as we compare the 1520 against the arma motor that we pulled out of our infraction now.
I know a lot of you are saying: the current arm of vehicles include the smart motor so here’s. What that looks like, as you can see, all three of these motors are the same diameter or thickness they’re, just different lengths, so for compatibility as long as your vehicle can accommodate that longer. Can then this 8s system will work for you just for demonstration’s sake. Here is the larger and more expensive, 1717 castle motor, which is your other 8s option, but take notice how much thicker the can is, which not all vehicles have the extra space to accommodate so that’s. Why the 1520 motor opens up 8s use to all the vehicles that couldn’t fit the 1717. here is the 1520 motor lined up inside the traxxas udr? We know the 1520 diameter is the same as the traxxas motors, but the longer 1520 motor would hang out the back just a little inside the udr. Now here’s the motor lined up inside the traxxas e revo 2.0 and it won’t fit because the longer can would hit this rear shock mount now. Here’S, the traxxas max with the 1520 motor and here’s, where things get interesting because it fits, but there isn’t quite enough room to put in the mamba monster x. Esc because that can is now taking up some of that esc space. But with a little bit of dremeling and some sanding on the chassis, this could be achievable. Moving over to arma here is our older, creighton, 6s blx, and you can see there is plenty of space behind the motor and in the chassis, and you will find that that 1520 motor is going to fit pretty much every arma 6s blx vehicle, the only vehicle That’S kind of in question is the typhon.
The typhon 6s blx is the eighth scale buggy and there isn’t quite as much room behind the motor because it uses a shorter chassis. But looking at the photos it appears there is just enough extra space there that it will fit the 1520 motor, but we just don’t have a typhoon here to test it. So let’s add this 8s system to our arma, infraction which we know hits 62 miles an hour when using the basher pinion gear and a 6s lipo okay, we got it all installed in the car, no problem, we didn’t even re solder, the motor wires they’re a Little long, but they’re gon na work out just fine the way they are. We soldered up, ec5 connectors onto the esc and then on the motor. We added an eight scale. Uh sized clamping fan mount with one of those 30 by 30 10 millimeter fans on there. Although there is enough room that we could put two 30 by 30 fans but we’ll try it the way, it is first okay, moment of truth. Let’S turn it on so tires tires are spinning backwards, and since this is censored, you can’t switch the motor wires. If this was a sensorless brushless system, you could switch b and c usually to switch the motor direction. There’S. Also a reverse on the transmitter. We don’t want to use any of those, so instead we’re going to go into the programming and reverse the throttle direction.
The mama monster x, 8s esc, has six areas of programming and throttle. Reverse is number six but it’s pretty easy to change. Using the beep sounds to navigate the programming in the esc and the driver’s guide from castle walks you through the process. So once we go into programming mode, we’ll keep answering no until we get to number six in the programming and option two and we’ll know we’re there, because the esc will beep six times followed by two, alright, so that’s, six two, which is what we want so I’M gon na hit the the throttle for yes all right so so now, if we give it throttle, we should be going in the correct direction. Okay, so now we got ta calibrate it really quick, so i’m gon na turn it off i’m gon na pull the trigger wide open turn it on once the leds start, blinking red i’m gon na go full break there. We go blinking red so now full break on the transmitter and i’m waiting for it to flash, yellow there we go and i let off for neutral and it’s calibrated. We have 6s in our infraction let’s. Do our first speed run 51.. Well, there’s a couple of variables: here we changed to those grp tires which i think are just a slightly smaller diameter than the hoons, so that might drop our top speed a little bit and this motor is 650 kv for 8s. So i think we need to gear up let’s.
Do a couple more passes, we’ll see what the motor temps like see, what the motor feels like? Oh my gosh it’s, not it’s, barely warm look at the marbling on our tires. That is cool. Looking yeah. This motor needs to be geared way up. This is speed, run attempt number two. We swapped out the pinion gear from an 18 to a 24 to 24. yeah, so let’s try it let’s just drive around a little bit. I’Ll push it hard, try to get it hot Music, Music, oh man, that is that is not that hot! Oh no, Music, 158, 150, 50. 49.. Okay, see look at the stuff to the tower. Okay, let’s bring out the big guns. All right, we’ve got 8s in the truck let’s, see how fast it goes. It’S got so much torque. I think it’s still way under geared Applause. 81. Okay, so we don’t even have the proper speed gearing on this car right now, with our 8s and it’s faster and there’s, still probably more room to gear up. So maybe we’ll do a few more passes and see what our temps are at and see. If we can go faster than 81. 84. Applause, okay, so i think maybe 84 is our top speed out here. With that 24 tooth opinion, so let’s just bash around a little bit. Try to drive it hard, get the heats up and we’ll temp it dude. It smells like rubber tune in next wednesday for walking with brett.
It sure does. Oh you smoked those tires wow, oh dude. Those tires are so hot. I can’t even hold on to them. Oh wow where’s, my temp gun 285 that’s. How hot the tires are. Motor 201 that’s hot, so that gearing is not ideal for just bashing on 8s. That system is just so powerful, though all that bottom and torque is just nuts, so much room to gear up, probably use a second fan too one fan on there is not quite enough and that’s only a i bet we could fit two 30s or maybe even 240S right there here are our final speed results. The takeaway from this 8s system is it’s very powerful and with the right gearing i’m confident our infraction would hit 100 miles an hour with the motor it’s. A torque long can with lots of headroom at the top, and it will probably need to be geared up like we did, but it’s always best to run a test, check your temps and then adjust as needed, or if you have the castle link, you can use Their software to view your last log for all the data on your last drive to better understand if your system is working too hard or not enough, if you want to convert your vehicle to 8s, if the vehicle isn’t designed for 8s, then keep in mind it’s Going to take a lot of abuse from this system and if your drivetrain has any weaknesses issues, this 8s system is going to expose them.
Potentially, this 8s system could blow out your drivetrain altogether if abused. So please take caution and use the power responsibly.
