It and we’re gon na we’re gon na compare it to their jalon day two and their trail finder two, since i haven’t have it handy all right, that’s good. So here it is been teased quite a bit pretty intriguing, ready to run 500 bucks complete with everything and this hard body. They call it the blackrock, but it really looks like a a jeep. So i’ll give you the ins and outs and compared to these other two vehicles, so it is a brand new vehicle brand. New chassis that’s always exciting right and it is sitting on an a 11.8 inch wheelbase. This this defender d90, is on a, i believe, a 10.8, so uh 11.8 and this one is 2.3, so it’s non standard, it’s a little smaller in proportions, but you know a little bigger than this very handsome. Looking and i’ll give you the ins and outs. So this particular one, the defender d90, both in convertible truck and four door or or hard top. It has opening doors very detailed interior. This one is not quite to that level. The doors do not open the. The hood opens on this one boom with a magnet and this one as well. Look at that huh, so nice little detail. The this whole roof comes out uh, just like the real jeep. You know when uh, when you rent that car, when they’re not looking just unbolt that thing and throw that thing in the rental house, but it’s really cool the i’m, not sure what size driver will fit in here.
It’S a little tight and that steering wheel is a little bit pointed down. The the fenders are are plastic part of the body, it’s uh and then the sliders too, or the the steps so to speak so it’s a little bit strange plastic, bumpers adorn this feature. This particular model and a nice real spare tire on bead lock wheels, so the wheels are really cold. They’Re, steel, bead locks and the rubber is a very, very soft, very gummy rubber, a lot more quite a bit more than i see in their other vehicles. So what’s really innovative here, so it has light buckets, but it doesn’t have lights installed for 500 bucks, but it comes with a really new mounting system for them. So rc four wheel drive likes to have these four bolts here very difficult, very scale very difficult. So what they did is they did a kind of a quick mount system with four pins that are spring loaded. So all you have to do is press down on it. Uh, the the the other side, though taking it off, is quite difficult because all the the buttons are separate. You have to do it one by one and it seems like you have to pop it open one at a time. So i found a little trick with a with a little flathead screwdriver to pop each one and then once it’s released here it is so. The body is quite heavy 870 grams, with this interior and spare tire, no lights but very cool.
Looking it has a metal grill on here that can be removed. I believe so. What’S going on is it’s a billet aluminum chassis right here in a fairly standard width here, but you notice that it tapers it flares out on the rear, so it’s a little wider on the rear. Okay and it’s not quite solid because it seems like it’s milled out from from front to back, so maybe save a little weight but keep the strength. And then, as i said, the the body mounts they put quite a bit of work on them right here. So self guiding holes boom and you have like a little arrow type head that locks into place and here’s the buttons that you press. So the battery tray is pretty nice it’s, quite big right here, laser etching! You have guides that you could put stoppers like bookends on your battery and two straps is what they supply something really interesting. So this is not the battery they included. Obviously, what they did is in traditional rc4 wheel, drive manner. They put a 3 000 nickel metal hydride 6l, but they’re going with the xd60 it’s kind of a changing of the guard notice that this is a two speed transmission right here with a full size, transmission, servo powered by your remote metal horn, very nice. What they call the twister servos 200 ounces per inch of torque notice as well, that the the ser the servo up front, the steering servo, is angled forward.
Perhaps for clearances your motor is mounted kind of high open spur there’s no casing on this very neat. Wiring and then the suspension is interesting: it’s independent that’s for the ensure, but what they do so, not ins as opposed to leaf spring. What they do, though, is they separated the spring, the coil spring and the damper into two units so it’s a bit more realistic for this type of vehicle. So you should get your little better articulation than leaf springs box stock. I think they come with hard springs. All around and they it’s a little bit it’s a little bit stiff, so you don’t get you don’t get sag at all, especially on the rear, uh it’s, very it’s, a very front heavy vehicle. So but they do give you the option of changing your springs over let’s see what else. So the motor, as i said, is right here. 45 turn 540 motor two speed transmission it’s more than a two to one ratio, it’s quite useful, very slow when you are on low gear and nice and nice and peppy when you’re in fa in high gear. So but one of the highlights of this vehicle. So it’s very stiff laterally ready for those. Those crazy bodies is the belly. So look at that belly so flat so much clearance and you could see by the angulation of the of the drive shafts. You know how how much clearance there is here. I believe that’s a delrin skid another highlight is the the axle is offset on the front and and that’s cool, because when you upon full compression you get some good clearances, the driveshaft does not have any binding with any links or the transmission.
So they’re able to put stuff the pretty low and still out of the way on the on the rear, it’s just centered. Shifting transmission is pretty cool and a lot of a lot, a lot of swivel front and rear it’s able to pre load that transmission until it locks into place and it’s able to take the loads. When you have a little transmission servo, it usually can’t, take the load off being bound up and usually it’ll burn up switch handy right there at the bottom. So one really good advantage of this i noticed is the steering is amazing. You can go more, but at any more than this the tires hit the links the links are going in, but not at a very severe angle, but plenty plenty tight clearing check this out. So i love that i’m able to put this on my stand, because the bell is flat. So that’s, the power to speed is even with a simple esc, simple motor you’re able to achieve very good crawling or what you call that modulation, low speed control. So very good, very scale and check out how quiet this drivetrain is: okay, i’m going to shift so notice, it’s preloading, that until you turn the transmission, so this is full full gas pretty smooth huh, and this is with a three cell. So three cell is cool. She’S shifting on the fly because you’re able to get the most out of your motor, your two speed transmission, obviously you’re interested in high speed and low speed.
So there you go so we’re going to take it out on the test run on the next. Video hang on for that by the way, if you are new here, this is rc review. We get a lot of these vehicles as much as we could can we we we talk about it and we mod them to death, not only talking video but also action. Video so and we we all, we have like three test courses, so we try to try to standardize everything. Okay, uh little tires by the way 1.55 wheels. I believe uh instead of 1.9 and the the tires are smaller. These are so on. My defender are 3.7 inch, tire so smaller than the than the class one 4.2 inch there. Okay. So now what i’m going to do if you’re still with me, is i’m going to compare it to the other platforms. So what we have is all rc, four wheel drive all metal. This is what you’re getting we’re scale. Realism with rc4 wheel drive the jalon day. Two, the eleven point: three inch: wheelbase, the oh, no, maybe a 10.8 inch wheelbase on the gelande 2 oil, coil, independent suspension, very good performer, and then this is their new one. Their cross country 11.8 inch wheelbase and then and independent suspension as well. The coil and the dampers are separate from each other, so still should still get good performance and then over here is the trail finder 2, which is a leaf spring unit i’m.
Not sure if you could do this in coil, you probably don’t really want to. Ah, i see what’s going on here, so the the servo horn hits the the axle pumpkin. So this is my toyota extra cab marty, mcfly vehicle um. You know for scale for realism, not a great performer. Jesus what’s happened to my shocks, but, oh, you know leaf spring problems, but for realism, that’s how it is okay. So what do we have going on? How do we compare in terms of two speed transmission uh, the trail finder two and uh, like the cross country, both have two speed transmission. The jalon da2 is single speed. Okay, they have they’re very forwarded mounted motors on these two right by the servo, but on this one, the new cross country, the servo, is the only one up front, so this is behind it, and this is a bit higher than where’s. My handy dandy ruler. So this motor is a bit, so this motor is a bit higher than the other two, so let’s say five inches five and three quarters so it’s about three quarters of an inch higher and this one is five. So five, five five and three quarters so more for trailing uh performance but they’re all quite biased, with forward weight. The battery is center center here and here it’s more center to back the the chassis. Quite is narrow chassis rails. This one is kind of in the middle, and this one is middle and then it gets wide.
Okay, and now we get to the belly. The belly on the jalonde tooth is: oh it’s got the offset pumpkin as well. The belly is small, quite big, delrin belly, and here the trail finder too. This is really the great weakness of the the trail. Finder too is wow, i think it’s just in there in the way. So this is your scaler. Your transfer case is, is kind of low and it’s got that protector right there, but that hangs up quite a bit this. This is more the the performance. This is more, the scaler leaf spring they’re, all pretty much metal, and this one is their new hybrid. What do they have in store for it in the future? We’Re, not quite sure, we’re going to take it out, see what it’s all about uh, but definitely the big innovations are the the the the no more screws kind of a tool free body mounting – and you know this uh, this body so i’m, not sure if they’re Gon na try to hit another price point, but definitely at with the rtr it’s 500 as well, but quite a handsome looker, a little lighter. So it should perform higher, not as high as the land. Rover it’d be nice to put a driver in some lights and we’ll see how it performs. Maybe a winch give it give it. Some really realism, maybe some front engine cowling but pretty nice – that they have a a scale rear tire.
But the tires and wheels definitely looks like they got an upgrade. So there you go: oh a little xd60. So there you go pretty, not a bad package for a three channel um. You know two speed: independent suspension, trail chassis.
