So in a very recent video guys, i took this rc to a local rc track and i was running it there and there were some little kids there and i let them use the rc. They kind of talked me into letting them use it. So long story short, it got broken, so we have to repair the things that got broken um, so i’m gon na take the body off the first thing that got broken. Is the body mount right here, so the rear body mount completely broke off, so we’re gon na have to replace that i got a new one of those. The other thing the nerf bar ripped off the side and the other thing is there’s a gear, that’s stripped and i think it’s, probably the spur gear. I haven’t opened up the cover yet, but i think it’s a spur gear, so that’s kind of going to lead into what we’re replacing today guys we’re replacing all those parts. So so first off right here guys we have part what is this part 1914, so it’s? The body mount front and rear posts. We just need the rear to replace this, and this is a traxxas um part, so it’s just a stock part and then for the nerf bars. I’Ve got right this right here. So this right here is the rpm nerf bars for the low center of gravity. Traxxas slash two wheel drive, so rpm has better plastics than the stock one.
So i imagine these will hold up even better, and these will just go in place of these ones. So nerf bars these were about eight to ten bucks. I want to say – and the last thing i got was right here guys – i have got a 48 pitch gear, so i think it’s a spur gear. I haven’t opened it up yet, but i believe it’s probably spur gear that got stripped. So i got this hot racing. Hard steel spur gears, 86 tooth um right now. I think i have a 90 tooth in it and that one got stripped because the 86 tooth got stripped in it before so i’m, going to be going back down to 86, too so it’s going to have the high speed gear in it. But this right here is, am spus, a hardened steel spur gear and that’s. What we’re going to be doing in today’s video guys so i’m going to go ahead, bring the camera a little bit closer and we’re, going to jump right in this installation alrighty guys. So the first thing i’m going to do is i’m going to go ahead and get this gear cover off right here and there’s two screws, one right up here and there’s another one down in here and i’m gon na get this cover off um. To make this a little bit easier, i’m also gon na take this wheel off um, so i’m gon na get my let’s see.
I got my seven millimeter to remove the wheel nut right here. We’Re just gon na get this off. You can do it without removing this, but it just makes it a little bit easier. I think getting the wheel out of the way. This is what we’re working on right here. We have got one down here and one right here and those are both two millimeters. So let me grab my two mil, which i have right here and we will get both of those off real, quick yeah. The the pinion definitely shifted somewhat um. The good thing about this guys is, we don’t even have to loosen the slip or anything we just have to take off these three screws right here, so there’s, Trei, two and a half millimeters that hold this spur gear on, and there are some different miscellaneous screws That come with this new one, so we might have to use these screws to put the new one on, but let’s go ahead and get those off so, like i said two and a half millimeter and here’s. My two and a half mil right here and we’re gon na go ahead and just get these off. I need something to get back behind the spur gear slip the spur gear off. I need to find something: i’ll be right back with you guys, not sure where my little flathead screwdriver got put, so i can’t find that so i’ll just use a scissors.
I just need something to get back behind this bit behind the spur gear right here to pry it off. I might just need to use one of the blades spin that around a little bit it’s almost off and there we go guys it might not be completely stripped, though looking at it. It still looks like there’s teeth, but you know what guys it’s still a good idea. It might be more that this freaking spur gear or that the motor slid, because look at how far this pinion moved guys that pinion slid off the shaft somewhat. You can see slid down the shaft that’s what she said. So maybe this gear is still all right because looking at it, maybe you guys can see on the camera. The gears actually look pretty good. Maybe a few of them over here are chewed up a little bit, but since i have this upgrade and since this is going to be way stronger that’s, why we’re doing this upgrade so let’s go ahead and open up this hot racing spur gear, nice new spur Gear 86 tooth and let’s see it comes with some few screws looks like three screws and some little washers go ahead. Get this ripped open there we go, looks like it. Just has three screws: three washers and three little shims. These appear to be, and it just looks like it’s about as simple as throwing it on, where the other one came off, go ahead and press it in place like such, and since this is going into metal we’re going to want to use a dab of thread.
Lock so i’ve got my orange thread lock right here that i’m going to use – and these right here are also smaller than the ones that came out. So the ones that came are two and a half mil the ones that we’re going to be putting in. That came with the kit are only two millimeter heads, so i think we take one of these. Take one of these bits right here and then i think we just then put one of these washers under. I suppose i don’t know what the point of the washer is. You guys know. Let me know in the comments and then we’ll just get a dab of thread lock on it like that. Go ahead and thread it in we’ll just get it started. We’Re, not gon. Na tighten it down until we get all of them on all right got the second one. Do the exact same thing get the washer on the back side like such good dab, more thread lock for this one and then go ahead and start threading it in and then we’ll go ahead and do the last one and then we’ll get them all snugged up At once – and this i want to say guys – cost about 20 for this gear for this hot racing, um steel spur gear, now dab a thread lock for this last one and then go ahead and thread it in all right. We want to get them all evenly.
Snug before we do that final tightening that one snug that one’s snug and that one’s snug, and just like that guys it is installed. Now i just need to reposition that pinion gear and i might need to slide the motor. It looks like because it looks like the motor might have slid, is more of what the issue might have been, but this is a nice upgrade it’s a nice looking little part nice looking gear should be significantly stronger than one that came off so i’m going to Go ahead guys i’ll just do that off camera i’m going to go ahead, loosen that up move the motor actually i’ll, do it on camera. Now we have to remove this grub screw right here, which i believe is either a one or one and a half millimeter. I think maybe it’s a size i’m, not sure that might be a two male let’s see nope that’s the right size, i think it’s a one and a half mil. Let me make sure i got that in there before i try to loosen it all right guys. I went ahead and grabbed a new grub screw that i had, because the other one was getting close to being stripped. This one should be correct, așa că eu sunt, just going to start threading this one in and then i’m going to put a dab of thread lock on this one and then hopefully this one will work, because the other one didn’t want to screw all the way in all Right got some thread lock on that get it back onto the motor shaft, get lined up and just go ahead and snug it down.
As you guys can see, i’ve got the pinion gear on, dar, as you can also see, the pinion gear is not touching the spur gear, so the motor did in fact shift shifted on probably a hard landing. So those are two millimeters. These two right. One right here and one right there. Those are two millimeters that hold the motor in place so grab my two mil we’ll go ahead and loosen those up real, quick and then just shift the motor a little bit closer, and i usually just feel i just usually do the feel test um to get The pinion in the exact right spot order to get the gear mesh proper, that looks pretty good let’s go ahead and snug it and, as you guys, can see just a little bit of gap and i think that’s good guys all right guys. So the next thing, i’m going to work on is i’m going to work on replacing this rear body mount um. Now you don’t have to do this, but i remove the rear bumper it’s just held on with four of these screws right here. adică. What holds the rear bumper on? I just decided to move that out of the way, because then it’s easier to access these screws right here, um that hold the posts on for the body mount um, so let’s go ahead. Let’S get this ripped open. This is part what i say: it was part 1914r, and i believe this does include the front and the rear mount, but we just need the rear and here’s our rear one right here and that’s.
Practic, all we need – and all we have to do is just unscrew which these appear to be what size are they. These appear to be two millimeters, so there’s one here here here and here, and you can see there’s, not a lot of material that holds this on. You can see how that would crack and break because it’s pretty thin right there at the top and then we’re just going to put this one in the exact same location i’m, actually going to use a dab of thread lock. Just because this is going into my aluminum shock tower on a stock shock tower, you wouldn’t need to do this, but um going into metal, always a good idea to use a dab of thread lock a little bit, and i think i had it in second from The bottom holes got that one started get some thread lock on this one, get this one started and get the top two started thread lock. This is actually pretty simple. This is a pretty simple fix, so that’s good and the posts are already on it. So that’s good get these ones snugged down and then we are good to go guys and this is going to be done all right guys and as simple as that and the rear mount is now on. And now we can move on to the last thing, which is this right here we are going to replace the nerf bars for these rpm ones, so i’m going to go ahead.
I think i’ll reposition the camera for this and then we’ll jump right into installing these. Bine baieti, it’s time to replace the last thing, which is the nerf bar that broke right here, so i bought these nice upgrade rpm ones. Nwo, if you’re wondering what the part number is part number 73862 and it is from rpm, so these should be significantly stronger than the stock ones um now this is only for the low center of gravity. So this is only if you have a low center of gravity conversion kit, for your slash for a high center of gravity. This is not the ones that would come on it so and there you go nice looking and basically guys. This is just held on by two two millimeters, so right here and here and that’s, all you have to do. We’Re gon na go ahead grab. This is my two yep grab. My two millimeter go ahead, get these unscrewed and there’s one, and here is number two and there’s the other piece and let’s see. Is it the same from on both sides? Yeah, i think they’re identical guys on both sides. So just go go ahead and it just slides right up underneath here like such and then we can just go ahead and tighten them down the existing screws and i think we’re going to be starting new threads because it does thread into the plastic bit here. So you always want to do this by hand.
You don’t want to use a power tool to do this and or if you do use a power tool, make sure not to tighten it all the way down, because you will strip out the plastic threads which you do not want to do all right. So just get these snugged all the way down like such alright guys – and i have got them both snug and, as you guys, can see, there’s definitely more material on these ones than the stock ones that came off of it. So hopefully these will hold up nicely. I’Ll go ahead and i’ll do the other one off camera, the exact same procedure and then we’re going to be testing this thing again in another video.
