  6. He's absolutely right. They are more trouble than they are worth. I started having issues with mine within the year or 50,000km from when I bought it, and apparently the battery that runs it (it's a separate smaller battery in my Jeep Compass Trailhawk) died within 70,000km. I took it in and that's what they told me. They said it's not covered under the extended warranty I bought either, and it would have cost me almost $600 to fix, except the service rep misunderstood me. I had no intention of getting it fixed since $600 is a lot for a battery that the car runs fine without. She somehow did not understand this, and she ended up going ahead with the repair anyway without my express permission. She tried to say I expressly authorized the repair after the fact, but in the end they ended up comping me the battery. I kinda wish they hadn't put the battery in. The system is a real pain, and judging by the first battery, this one likely won't last any longer.

  13. So let's say you spend $80/month in gas for one of these vehicles. So $960/year for gas. At a average of 5% fuel savings with one of these idiotic systems. That's a whopping $48/year in gas savings. That's Starbucks for a month worth in savings for a system that dramatically increases wear/tear on your engine. Sigh.

  15. Rented a new Chevy Malibu with this feature. Just about when the red light turned green at a stop the car stalls out or waiting to turn left across traffic. Dangerous junk!
    By the time I returned the rental after 5 days and probably 1,000 starts because I did a lot of in town stop and go traveling, the starter was grinding and sound like it was ready to give up! In a normal day of driving maybe 10 to 15 starts tops. Starter would last 10 years then. This thing maybe 6 months to a year!
