We’Re gon na do some uh speed runs with the 2s battery uh. I did do some more research aka reading the owner’s manual, which is something i never do. Usually, when i get an rc i’m like a little kid, i just slap a battery in it and let it rip, but i read the instructions, and what we are going to do today is test out that drag race mode. A few things i found out after reading the manual you can run this truck on 3s, but it is recommended – and this is the first time i’ve ever seen this – it is recommended that you change the gearing to run a 3s battery in this truck, because you Could overheat the motor did not know that never seen that before so this gearing may be different than your typical stock uh truck gearing so we’re not going to run a 3s today, we’re just going to run 2s we’re going to do a speed test with a 2S battery it’s a 5800 milliamp traxxas battery and we’re going to do a couple of uh launches here in the normal mode with the tsm and then we’re gon na disable. The tsm i’m gon na show you guys how to do that and then we’re gon na run it uh without the tsm and basically, what that does in drag race mode. You don’t have any tsm when you’re driving the truck, but when you put on the brake, the tsm is activated only when you brake, so that you don’t skid out or slide around or whatever all right guys.
We are zeroed out on the gps. Remember we’re running the 2s and that’s all we’ll be running. Today is a 2s and i may consider running a 3s. I might change the gearing out, though, because we don’t want to burn that motor up uh, but yeah we’re zeroed out here on the gps, i’m. Gon na kill two birds: one stone we’re gon na go ahead, get the truck warmed up we’re gon na launch it we’re gon na go down the street and we’re gon na get at the same time uh the peak speed with the 2s battery. So here we go guys, we got it uh we got the trans brake held down, we’re, going full throttle mode and we’re gon na let off here nice little old launch see what our peak speed was on that run 37 miles an hour, guys not bad for A 2s all right guys. We are zeroed back out on the gps here, so we’re gon na go ahead and launch it again now. I did also read in the instructions that uh you could do. What’S called a burnout and that’s where you just hold the willy bar, give it a little juice. Let the tires warm up. Uh i’m, not gon na – do that on this street because i don’t know if you guys can tell, but this street has ridges in it. It’S not flat, that would be better like done on a blacktop or something where it’s, nice and smooth.
I don’t want to wear out the tires unevenly, so we’re not going to do that on this street, but that is uh. One thing i did read about it warms the tires up, get some. You know warm or they’ll, stick to the street, so that’s one way of prepping before a race. I guess anyway, here we go first run was uh 37 miles an hour. We are running the 2s we’re going to launch it again hold the trans brake in full throttle because we’re gangster like that and we’re gon na let go here. We go one two three let’s get it bring it back to us full throttle. Oh that’s, a nice. Looking truck man, pretty sweet, bring it back to us and we hit 37 again looks like we may not uh shake that number, which is not a bad number, though 37 2s, that ain’t bad, so we’ll go ahead and zero. It back out zero back out on the gps, we’re gon na line it back up. We’Ll, do one more uh launch uh in the default mode and then i’m gon na show you guys how to switch it out of uh tsm in a drag race mode. So here we go, we’ve got our trans brake held down full throttle. Here we go guys Music, a much cleaner launch that time and it could be because those tires are getting warmed up. Maybe that is a real thing. Yeah guys we hit 38 miles an hour on the gps this time, so we did go up one mile, an hour that wasn’t bad.
We did have a better launch that time. So maybe these tires oh yeah they’re a little warm. Maybe they did need to get warmed up a little bit all right, guys so now i’m going to show you guys how to uh get out of default mode. Take off the tsm put it in drag race mode that’s. What we’re going to do and then we’re going to test it out like that all right guys? Hopefully, you guys can see this i’m, not sure if my camera can zoom in that close, but we’re gon na try it out here: okay, we’re gon na switch it to drag race mode. First off your truck must be on. The transmitter must be on you just turn it on, like you, normally would so we’re gon na take this plug off right here. This is on the receiver. We got the plug off and if you look down in there, hopefully the camera can capture that there’s a green, solid light in there and there’s a link button. Okay, that green solid light is good, but what we want to do is get it in drag race mode, so you may need a screwdriver for this, because you can’t reach down in that hole with your finger. All we’re going to do is we’re going to hit that button right there that link button i’m going to hold it down for just a second until it turns red. Now that green light, if you guys can see in there is flashing, we are now in drag race mode.
Now, you’re only going to press that link button for a slight second and it’s what’s going to happen is it’s going to go from a solid green. When you press it to a red and then it’s going to start flashing green, like it’s doing in there now now, you just replace the plug that’s. What makes it waterproof? Okay, the plug is replaced, and if you see it on the receiver now it’s flashing and we’re getting a little feedback from the servos now there’s no assistance tsm is officially off. So what we’re gon na do is again, like i said the tsm will activate once we hit the brake that way we don’t skid out, but as far as driving. This is all me baby, no assistance, no tsm, all right guys. We are zeroed out again on the gps. Drag race mode is activated, so there is no tsm assistance. Only when you brake. So here we go let’s get it. One thing i noticed when you do disable tsm you’re, going to have to reset your uh steering trim, because mine was pulling really really hard to the right, even though it was center. When we had the tsm active once you take that off and you go into drag race mode, make sure you center your uh your steering trim again all right guys here we go. Trans brake is active, full throttle, let’s get it totally different, guys totally different experience without that tsm.
This is going to be tough racing. This truck, i thought, it’d, be pretty easy with the uh that mode activated, but without tsm boy you go all over the place. You really got ta put a leash on this thing: let’s drive it down the street. Real quick i want to see steering is, for the most part trim. It is pulling off to the right just a little Music bit. So, just out of curiosity guys, we hit 37 miles an hour again and that’s what the tsm deactivated. I just wanted to see. If that made a difference, it really doesn’t with the drag race mode and the default tsm. It doesn’t make a difference. You’Re, going to hit 37 38 miles an hour with a 2s lipo. Now, if you go with the 7600 milliamp you might, you may get some faster speeds? I’M, not sure this is a 5800 milliamp, so we’re gon na launch it one more time in drag race mode. We got the trans brake held down full throttle, let’s, get it i’m noticing guys with that drag race mode activated. It is a little more difficult to control on launch so guys, we’re going to reset the gps i’m only going to run it one more time with the gps, because it’s really not necessary anymore we’re uh. We are just trying to see how we can control this thing without the tsm. What now that we’re in drag race mode, totally different guys, night and day the drag race mode, is a lot more difficult to control on launch because it wants to just peel out in all directions.
You really got ta uh, have your hand on that wheel. You know and um you got a rainer in man it’s like it’s, a little uncontrollable on launch with a 3s forget about it. There’S no way there’s no way with the tsm off launching this with a 3s battery, no you’ll, definitely flip it or wreck out uh and even in the manual. If you are going to run a 3s not to take that not to run it in drag race mode, because you will wreck out so i’m thinking that’s. Why they’re telling you that? Because you i’m telling you guys now that we have the tsm completely turned off it’s a whole another animal. Now, okay, we’re uh, we’re zeroed out on the gps, not that that matters we’re gon na run that with the gps one last time not really necessary. With this application we’re not this is not a speed, uh truck, i mean it could be, but that’s that’s, not what it’s for we’re gon na try to uh see if we can get a good launch again. You know what i might just let’s. Try let’s try uh warming. These tires up guys. You just want to hold the willy bar, give it a little bit of throttle not too much. Okay. Here we go. Trans brake is locked full throttle, let’s get it yeah it’s a lot more difficult guys than i expected it’s wanting to go off to the right.
For some reason, even though the steering is uh centered that’s hands off for the most part, it’s tracking, pretty straight all right guys, we’re going to go ahead and remove the gps. Our top speed was 38 in uh tsm mode 37 in drag race mode. Oh in case, you guys are wondering 35 miles an hour on that last run. You’Re gon na be between 35 and 38 miles an hour with a 2s now with a 7600 i’m, not sure this is a 5800, but still you’re not going to go far off. That number the take off guys is what i got to work on. Take off let’s do one more let’s. Do one more launch see if we can’t get a good take off i’m sure you guys by now can tell the difference between drag race mode and the default tsm mode. Big difference guys, you get quite a bit of assistance with the uh tsm activated let’s, see i’m gon na lock it again hold down the throttle, let’s, give it a half throttle or uh 75 here on the gun and see. If that helps. Oh, that helps a little bit yeah. Okay, we’re still getting that peel out action, but we’re not without we’re, not full throttling at that time. So we were able to take off better, maybe that’s the trick to these uh drag cars. Maybe you don’t want to always go full throttle as tempting as it may sound.
You got ta, be able to control this beast all right, so we’re gon na hold it again. Trans break and we’re gon na go about right there, which i guess is what 75 80 we’re gon na. Let off oh that’s much more controllable, but we didn’t get as much pillow action on that it’s kind of weak, anyways, guys i’m still loving this truck it’s an awesome truck uh having a good time with it still learning with it it’s my first dragster. So still learning with it guys it is a fun truck, a new experience for me, i’m, enjoying it all right, guys, i’m, going to show you how to put it back into default, tsm mode. If you see here on the receiver box, hopefully the camera is getting the you see the green flashing light that’s, indicating that we’re in drag race mode right now there is no tsm, so we’re going to disable that and put it back in uh default mode or How you get it in the box, so we’re going to take this plug out again, make sure you guys don’t lose this plug that’s. What keeps it waterproof get you a screwdriver or something we’re gon na look down in there, hopefully get a clear up close shot of that. You see the link button right in there you’re gon na press and hold that down for a slight second okay. Now, when you press and hold that button down it’s going to turn red you’re going to let off of it when it turns red now the light is solid, green, so we’re back in default mode.
The way you would get it in the box, so tsm is activated again yeah. I never realized how much that tsm really does help, but without it i mean there’s, a big difference, guys big difference all right guys. So we are back in the default mode with the tsm activated. Oh much straighter! Look at that much straighter that’s hands off and again, i think when you switch in between these modes with the drag race mode and the tsm mode, you may have to re center. Your uh trim again, i know i had to when i first went into that drag race mode. It was pulling really really hard to the right, so i almost had to give it full left on the steering trim to get it to go straight. Big difference, though, guys between uh drag race, mode and tsm mode. Hopefully the camera captured it where you guys can understand how to do that, it’s, not a hard process at all. So guys. You don’t want to full throttle it with the in drag race mode, because you will lose control like i did uh, so you want to kind of practice and kind of uh mess around with that throttle see what works best for you again.
This isn’t the best street to drive on a lot of gravel a lot of uneven parts, but we didn’t destroy the body today and that’s pretty much all i’m worried about that’s a nice body guys you don’t want to scratch that body up.
