But today this video is going to be on how to install the traxxas light kit uh pretty simple. I know it’s a thousand and one videos of this on youtube, but this makes a thousand and two just um a more updated video um from some of the older ones. I’Ve seen them myself, but i just wanted to get it on film show. You guys show my subs what’s going on with it. So first things, first we’ll get this out the way we’re going to talk about the tools that we’re going to need to do it and we’re going to get started all right. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s get started going through the tools. These are just some of my tools, but most most of these tools are necessary with a lot of uh tinkering with the cars and building and fixing um things. I think that everybody should have in their uh their tool or their rc tool collection. Starting off. I have the uh mip speed bits. This is a 1.5, we have a 2.5 and we have a 2.0 inside of the drill which this is used a lot. The 2.0 is used a lot on a lot of cars. I also have my ryobi uh driver, and this is is, is you could you could change the torque to one or two and it just it? It doesn’t spin super duper fast. So it keeps you from stripping a lot of screws. It will strip screws now, but uh it’s a great deal for what you get uh.
It probably lasts about two months, two and a half, maybe three months of hard use before the battery needs to be charged, and it only takes about an hour and a half to two hours to fully charge the battery. This is my backup. This is my wrench that also fits the hex drivers, just in case it goes dead or when i get it down tight, i can tighten it all the way down with this without stripping out of the hicks and scissors. These are lexan scissors, but i find myself using these scissors a lot for a lot of different things when it comes to the rc cars so let’s get into it here. It is right here the max light kit. I already popped it open. You have your directions on the top, make it easy for you, nice and simple, showing you how it’s done uh the good thing about this light kit is, you don’t have to try to place the lights because it comes with two new bumpers for the lights and I think that’s what mourns the price, because the price is very expensive on these it’s, like 100 bucks but um they are, and that is expensive for lights. When you can get a light kit for 20, 30 40 bucks. But you have to figure out a way to get make it fit uh. This is made specifically for the max, so there it is. You have the the front, bumper, the rear, bumper and then your module uh, the controller likes to turn them up, dim them down.
Like brighten them up, uh that’s cool, the only thing i would say about this kit is perfect, but they just only make them to fit the traxxas esc uh. It is a way you can mod this i’m sure somebody has already modded it. It is a way, but this right here goes down into the traxxas, esc and that’s. The only thing that i dislike about it, i think traxxas, would make more money on this. If they made it a little bit more modular, you could plug this into something and still get it into your receiver box or plug it into something that plugs up to a battery pack or anything like that. I think they should do that uh, but you know who am i uh all right, let’s get the rest of this stuff out of the box and then we’re gon na get on into it nice phone this. I think this is the rear bumper. This is the rear, bumper right there, two little things to plug into the module rear, bumper and front bumper there. It is, and let me see what else you get all right. You get the twist ties this. This is why you need the sizzles, because, after you make it look real pretty in the body having those long um i mean in the truck having those long stems. Sticking out got your scissors to cut the stems with because once you these are not reusable zip ties.
So once you use it one time, it’s a done deal anyway, so i get them real tight and i snip them off. So they can be out of the way of catching on anything and also you have screws in this bag as well. I probably use all the well okay, this these screws are for this uh it’s a spot on a chassis perfect for this. So all right, that’s everything out of the box let’s get the max back up here on the table and let’s get to work. I’Ve done it before so i shouldn’t have to use the directions, but i always like to reference back to the directions to just to make sure that i’m doing it right so hold tight. Ladies and gentlemen, get the max up here and we’re gon na rock out. All righty back with the max uh, ladies and gentlemen, i’m gon na be speeding up some of this video and chopping out some of it. The key the key facts i will slow it down and i’ll leave those on the video, but some of the stuff that’s. Basically self explanatory um, like zip, tying it down to certain points on the body i’m, not going to put that on tape on camera. But i am going to put as much as i can and speed the video up and try to make it as quick as possible with being easy. The way that i mean to where you can follow this video and still be able to do it so let’s get it.
I already lost my train of thought hit that fast, so i am going to have to resort to the directions all right. They say all right, i think i got this. I think i got this. I think i got this let’s go with the front bumper first i’m gon na take the screws out and get it to where you guys can see it. I know um, i don’t have a camera man. I don’t have five different camera angles: uh it’s, not that easy for me to do, but all right see right now. You’Re gon na need the 2.5, because that 2.0 is too small. 2.5 i’ll give it a little turn. First make sure i got my my um drill in reverse and reverse it out of there all right, there’s, two screws on the front this front, bumper, should just slide right off two screws on the front: voila two screws on the front right there and the front Bumper comes right off, which i see that front. Bumper comes right off so first things. First we’ll go ahead and reinstall this right back on same two holes. I like to leave my wires up top like that, like so so got the front on, and i like to on when i’m working on stuff, i like to put stuff back immediately. If i, if i can like some of you some of the stuff you do, you may not be able to but get it nice and snug, and then i just twist it now uh some of the stuff.
When you’re working on certain things, you may not be able to put back, but when i can put the stuff back, because i don’t i don’t need to access that part anymore. I put it back because it gets tough on you. Sometimes a lot of people be overwhelmed because of uh. How many screws you have to take out and if you put your stuff back then you it’s less screws. You really have to deal with all right, so we got that front bumper on there. Nice and snug we’ll go ahead and get the rear bumper on and then we’ll uh go ahead and get the rear bumper on and then we’ll start putting other stuff in then we’ll tidy up about a tidy of our wires. All right, rear bumper is off once again. Two screws i’ll show you how that two screws right there and the rear bumper is off all right. I like, like i said i like to keep my wires up top, so we keep them up high, go back in with the new bumper, oh get it snug, and then you can always just twist the drill it’s still going it’s plastic going in the plastic, so It don’t have to be super duper tight, but you don’t want it loose because you’re going to be doing a lot of bumping and driving pretty hard, so you don’t want it to come, so i just get them snug and i twist it with the driver.
Until i get it where i want it there, it is it’s on there, nice and smooth all right. Just the part you got you guys should be able to see better. When i get to this point because i don’t have to spin the truck, i can leave the truck sideways all right. Should the module go this way or that way? No, it goes not. That way. Comes that way see that fits right down on it. I want to go in his front two struggles to get on the front too over the servo. So muscles goes on the back two goes that way, with the wires facing away from the motor like so and then you use the two screws that were provided to you by traxxas get all this stuff out of the bag. So i have to keep digging in this bag. Two screws that pro that were provided to you by traxxas. I think this might be a 2.0 looks like a 2.0 get that started get the next one started, it’s, pretty easy fellas, we probably almost halfway through already a little bit, get it nice and snug once again, that’s plastic going in the plastic, so it doesn’t have To be super duper tight, all righty got that where we want it let’s get this out of the way. Hopefully i can see that pretty good all right had to get y’all a little bit closer, a wee bit closer. All righty next step is going to be.
I probably will go ahead and plug this down into the actual esc. I don’t know if y’all can see that really good. My light isn’t that bright, try to get it in see right in there it’s a little clip that clips comes out of there and that’s where this plugs into so. But you know what, though i want i kind of want to get my wires all tightened up. First, to see exactly how it’s going to go in so first thing, i’m, going to my light back is get my wires tidied up. So this is the part where we would definitely speed the video up. All right, i haven’t got it clipped all the way in uh, zip tied all the way in, but as you can see on the on the leads, they have the color codes on the lead, so that’s white that goes into white uh. And then you have two on the front on the reverse and the brake light uh one, the small wire goes into the blue. The one wire goes into the blue and the one with the red goes into the red, so let’s get that going. Let’S get. This. Might have been easier to plug it in before you uh actually clipped it down, but tough, but i got it where’s. The wise put that in first put these in before put the little leads in before you uh drill this thing down, because it will save you.
Some time trust me, it would definitely save you some time all right. So now all that’s left is to zip zip tie these down we’re gon na test it out and we’re gon na fire. It up see what it looks like. So all right, y’all moving on to the final step, is get this little plastic piece out right here so i’m going to take this receiver box off, i mean the top part, is receiver box off so i’m able to get in there nice and easy and get That piece out of there i’m using my needle nose pliers, it would be kind of wise for you to take the whole receiver box off, but for video sake, you’re gon na speed it up all righty back, use your set of needle nose and pull this little Got ta push back on it, pry back on a little plastic and then pull this little blue piece right on out, and that is where your final shebang goes. Then you find a way to run these wires and you’ll be good to go. I think that slots in there that way, just like so just like so all righty, so that’s a look at it, got it zip, tied here to the bumper zip tied over here to the bumper of course, just running out right to it. You don’t want to put too much pressure on these, because you know you don’t want to you: don’t want to mess up the ends, because i think you probably would have to buy a whole new light kit.
If you do mess that up all right, then we got the cord from here coming through zip tied to the frame of the chassis right here. Zip tied to right here and zip tie twice up front to the to the bumper so make sure. Y’All can see that twice up front to the bumper and then we just zip tight the long wire right there. So there it is max light kit, we’re gon na put a battery in here, get a little bit of b roll walk around the truck, and then you got ta, be it for this. For this evening, fellas, ladies and gentlemen, sorry – and we still have one zip tie left over, so give me a few seconds – i’ll be right back with y’all all right. Now we got us some power. We can go forward. If we hit reverse see the reverse. Lights came on going forward, you hit the brakes and they get brighter. Then, when you hit reverse the reverse, light comes on so that’s pretty cool brakes, that’s, pretty cool, so she’s all done. She is all done. Get some b roll i’m gon na get out of here hold tight, ladies and gentlemen, Music, Music.
