Team Associated T6.2 – Build Review and Running Thoughts.
2. Now i already made an unboxing video on this truck uh, where i had a box did talk to you a little bit about the features you know. I looked at some of the parts and then i said i’ll go ahead and build it and give you guys a review on how to build one together as well as how it did now. I did actually have time to drive the truck and it’s actually in a race, a local club race. At my indoor track. I went there a little bit early. I drove the truck a little bit around the track to get a feel for it, and then i jumped straight into my race uh and i did really good. I was actually on my way to win. I was about to check out of the entire race. I was like half a lap ahead on all the competition, but then i broke the truck now it’s completely my fault, but i’ll get to that later, but first it’s time to do a little, build review recap and show you what i’ve put in my truck, how I’Ve outfitted it and then we’ll talk about the performance and how it did so. The build overall was actually pretty good. 正如你所看到的, they did give you that little correction sheet telling you a few steps that had to be uh corrected. I threw in all the screws needed there wasn’t any missing parts in the kit.
Everything fit together, pretty well no loose sloppy parts. Everything went good. The ball cups assembled well, the shocks assembled really well. 嗯. Everything went together pretty well, there wasn’t any like really tight plastic screws. They all they all went in. 你知道的, just as they should. 在我看来, i didn’t really have any real issues with the build of the truck at all um. I really wish i could comment on something, but the way this truck went together was pretty, it was pretty smooth. I know i have read. The team associated in the past has had some kit building issues in terms of the quality and how these things come out, but i think they sorted this out major. You know the vast majority of it they’ve sorted it out with the 6.2. The only issue i did have was some of the little rod ends. So in the beginning of the one of the first things you have to build, is the steering rod ends uh, and then you get the shock. Rod ends and the turn buckles and they’re all molded together on one little parts tree because, as i said before, all the parts of all the plastic parts on this truck are fit together with parts trees. You have to rip or cut them apart in order to assemble your parts and all of the rod ends, so the steering wheel ends the turnbuckles and everything they’re all on one tree. So in the beginning of the kit, you have to build the steering on.
你. Have to go to bag number nine, i believe and take them out from where the shocks are. So i guess it would have been a little bit nicer if they would have included all of the the rod ends separately. But i understand that they’re in the same mold and stuff you know it’s definitely a little bit cheaper than the tlr kits, which are a lot more refined and nicer and i’ll go ahead and compare them a little bit later on. But you can see, i didn’t really do too well on removing. I didn’t really care too much if they just didn’t get in the way at all, but yeah the parts trees. You know you know some people don’t really like those me personally. I don’t really care too much you just kind of twist them apart um. You know you can’t make them look as flush as you would something that doesn’t have a parts tree on it, but in my personal opinion i really don’t care too much. I know some people who are you know clean freaks will care, but me personally, 我没有, but you know just enough. You know putting that out for you guys it is there uh anything else, really, 不, 什么. In my you know my eyes, uh yeah. I feel, 就像你知道的, build one together really well, i chose for the lay down transmission and then once again they get to and on the electronic side.
I actually extract these out of my tlr, so these electronics are used, but they’re still in good shape. A radi sonic 8 turn motor, which seems to have plenty of power, and i geared it exactly how the manual said so: i’m running a 22 pinion uh it’s a little under geared for my track. You could have a little bit more punch and power. I might have to set up some punch on the esc. I might have to gear it up. Maybe just two teeth: uh the motor was getting. You know it wasn’t getting hot at all after my runs, so i leads me to believe i could go a little bit higher up in the pinion section, the spurs still stock black box, 1000 z plus esc. I do believe this is discontinued, but they have something similar to it available, 它, a really good esc for mod and stock. I found it to work really well in my tlr. I also have it in the t5m and it’s a really good esc. So i continued using it here: spectrum sr2010 receiver in there uh that is also discontinued. It was the racing top of the line of micro, quick response, receiver, and i do believe they have updated it to something better. So i wouldn’t recommend you go out and buy this stuff. If you don’t mind it being discontinued me personally, i really don’t want it being discontinued because, unlike an rc car, you can really get parts for receivers like if it breaks it breaks.
You get a new one, so i don’t really care if it’s discontinued at all, because if this ever does a break, i’ll just buy the current stuff. You know not like a discontinued vehicle. It’S more. You know crucial because let’s say something breaks on it. You can’t get parts for it, but you can’t get part you’re, not gon na be able to get parts for like an esc or receiver. You know transponder it’s, a mylabs, rc4, that’s kind of the stuff that my track uses pretty much. What most tracks use so i’m going to pop that, on top of the servo and server i did buy a new one but it’s the same server. That i’m running in, like three of my other rcs it’s, my all time, favorite rc, 伺服, 它, the savvux sc sc, se1258tg servo it’s, a digital titanium gear, 伺服, really really fast and really smooth uh. I did actually have to end up using my own aluminum servo horn, because the kit comes with some plastic ones and those don’t really last too long, especially for racing so using my own aluminum one. But then i came into the issue that this was a little bit taller. 正如你所看到的, i had to dremel it down when it was taller when i would steer it actually hit the little piece right here for the front, the top part of the chassis it hit that so i had to go ahead and cut it with a Dremel tool because i was too cheap to buy a new one and the ball stud.
I also cut down too because it was rubbing right here. You can see against the servo just a little bit, so i have to cut the ball stud down and that down, but if you’re, using the proper servo horn or even the one that’s included with the kit. You’Re not gon na have this issue. But i did because i was too cheap to buy anyone cool, so that’s pretty much my personal car. Everything else is stock, the setup i’m using is the kit setup. So if you look at the manual in the very back, they give you this little kit set up, which is pretty much exactly how they instruct you to build the kit out of the box. So if you follow along the kit and you place, you know use the holes that the kit suggests and everything – and you know you – do the camber links to the length and use the pills that they give you in the end. You’Re gon na be pretty much exactly like this, and this is exactly how i was i was running. The kit set up exactly how you see it here and if you want this kit set up go you know you can look in the very very back of your manual and there’s, a kit set up and there’s also a blank setup sheet. So if you want to make your own setup, you can do that as well or if you go on associated website, you can print a bunch of these out or use other pro drivers setups as a base point but anyways.
I used the exact same thing. I haven’t filled in any of this stuff, but the kit setup is really exactly the same. I haven’t done any changes to the truck at all and when i went to my track i was really happy with how it did it did amazing out there now granted. You know it’s not always going to do amazing for you guys because there’s a lot of different surfaces, but my track is a high grip, damp indoor clay track and i was running slicks in the rear and like aka crosslinks, with a little bit of tread left In the front, uh it’s the exact same tire setup that i was using on my old stadium truck, and it did really well with those, but this did a little bit better. 在我看来, it had a lot more traction again. I did use the lay down transmission configuration on this truck, really great uh, you know forward traction side. Bite was also really really good. Steering amazing. 唯一的事情是, it had a little bit of push coming into a corner, and once they got settled into that corner, the push went away once you went into it, it did push a little, i pretty sure it’s, just the sway bar in the front. I might have to maybe loosen it or maybe just slightly a lower my ride height. I don’t really know, 但说实话, i kind of like that push it kind of gets me as a driver ready for the corner.
再次, lots of different drivers have a lot of different preferences. You know so you’re gon na have to just kind of work with what you have, and you know make the best out of your situation and obviously you’re gon na be able to uh set this thing up differently and uh yeah. But my personal opinion. I think it ran really well again throughout the entire event. I made no changes at all, except for keeping up with the factory setup and i did really well. I was uh tq and all three rounds of qualifying and i was on my way to win. 但再次, as i said about the gearing i came up short on a big, triple uh and i nose dab right in the middle right in the center or the last jump. I longed out into one of the jumps – and i have it here with me here. It is guys i broke my front bulkhead uh clean off. You can see it broke right where it bolts in and i’m, not really mad at this for breaking it was a pretty rough hit and it was kind of on an angle right on there. 所以我, not mad at it for breaking but i’m just gon na report to you guys it did break and according to a lot of the associated guys out there, it is a really really recommended upgrade that you change out to the factory team aluminum bulkhead, which Is what i have done here? It was 25.
It has the same 25 和 30 degree angle as a stock. One does and it’s just made out of the factory team aluminum. So hopefully that means it won’t break anymore, and that will be good. None of the hinge pins bent the little hinge, pin brace, did actually break you. Can’T really see it, but it’s the little the little metal hinge pin brace. 不幸, those are on back order, so i don’t have another one. So what i did was, i just took the halves of that one and i just kind of bodged them in there for now, 它, mainly just a shim, so it still works it’s still in there as a shim it’s, just cracked in one area, oh well, i Guess until the new one comes out, i should be good also, 你知道的, since the metal one offers more rigidity than the plastic one did so i think i’ll be fine, 但是的, if you guys are using this thing, especially if you’re using it on carpet a Real recommended upgrade would be the aluminum bulkhead, but it does come with quite a lot of aluminum upgrade. So the shock standoffs are nice. Shocks themselves are very good uh. The c and d blocks in the back pinch pin braces in the rear, excellent ball stud mount aluminum, 后, hexes rear hubs, uh that little piece that the boss, that mounts onto so it does have quite a lot of the factory team goodies motor plates.
So a lot of those included um if i were to upgrade one more thing on the truck. Judging by my uh overall feeling uh, i would upgrade the steering because, just because of the durability perspective, i have broken a few of these steering racks on my t5m. There are plastic i’m, 你知道的, but not just like hey i’m just gon na do it because i want to you know i usually just run the standard stuff until they break or they’re loose or something. So if something ever does go wrong, i do kind of imagine it being this and there’s a factory team upgrade for this and i’m pretty sure that’s pretty much. The only other upgrade i’m going to make to this truck, because everything else is spot on. It’S really good, and i really really like this truck and i feel like it handles amazing, so that’s pretty much all i got to say about this truck. I am very surprised on how well it does now again just the disclaimer. If you run on a different track setup, a different surface, you might not get the same result as i do it’s all about the track. Setup uh. They don’t make a b like a t6 and a t6d like you did the buggy. They only make one t6, and this is a geared more towards with you know: dirt driving you have the ball. Diff uh you’ve got the lay down laid back.
I mean i guess that could be the same, but you do get a ball diff it’s more setup for dirt driving, but it depends on where you guys drive your truck, and it also greatly depends more than ever on your tire package. So go ahead and if you haven’t got your tires yet research go to your local track. Ask the fast guys what they’re running ask how to you know, set up your tires and do that, because that will really help a lot uh, 所以是的. My overall impressions of this truck are positive. I am a little bit bummed out that i blew out my lead and lost my race because it’s a little bulk head but again i’m, not really i’m, more frustrated with me as a driver than mad at the vehicle itself or braking. Because, 真, i think even any real car any rc car would have broken on that jump. It was pretty nasty. I was going to hit the triple. I usually did a double single, like most of the guys did, but i was feeling a little confident and i decided to do a triple, but i landed like that on the face of a jump, and i was just like yep, i already know the vehicles in The air i knew i let off too early, i was like yup it’s gon na crash i’m, hoping it doesn’t break, but the bulkhead broke me so yeah. Thank you very much for watching this video guys.
I hope you guys enjoyed. I will be doing uh running i’ll, be trying to get out for practice, run this truck a little bit more, become more familiar with it and then, at the end of everything, i’ll give you guys a review on this truck, but overall my first thoughts are positive. I like this thing a lot i have not painted the body yet, which i don’t see a body here, i’m still waiting to paint my body i didn’t have time for it because of the new years i went to a party all that stuff. Didn’T have time to paint it, but i will be painting it today, so i did run my old red and silver t5m body it did fit. It actually did look pretty good, it fit pretty well. The only thing i needed to do was to drill out two new holes for the front, but the rear holes lined up perfectly. 所以,如果你们, 你知道的, if you find yourself in a pickle like me, you can’t paint your body yet go ahead, and if you still have a t5m body laying around it’ll fit, you just have to drill the holes out a little bit more. So thanks for watching, i hope you guys enjoyed this video hope. You guys had a great new year and i hope 2021 is gon na, be a awesome year, i’m already having some really cool plans for the channel for the rc cars that we’re gon na be doing.
I have some cool ideas in my mind: oh wait before i get go. You guys are wondering what battery was in this truck. I was running this gen za’s 4200 毫安小时, lipo pack. I know. Sometimes people like you, know the batteries for the weight it’s. Just a standard shorty pack it’s, you know standard thickness, standard size and it fits in pretty good i’m. Also have this reedy wolf pack 4200 same exact specs, except this one is a 60c, this one’s a 50c, so i haven’t really felt it but they’re all they’re. Both the same exact, same size, exact same thickness, so these are the batteries that i run. You guys could run a lot different batteries, thanks for watching hope you enjoyed and have a great 2021.
